Hello i have just installed media portal.

But i cant get my .avi files to play video, only the audio comes.

I have installed the K-lite full codec pack.

What could the problem be

Another newbie here. Same issue (Avi will not play after fresh install on fresh xpsp3 box). Your link doesn't provide any useful information on log files. What am I missing?

What is the default viewer exe and how can I test it independent of the system?

I don't think so, because MP has no way of knowing at which timestamp the external player stopped playback. Best way to achieve this would be to use an auto-resume feature in your external player itself. (MPC-HC can do that, I don't know about VLC)
