Controlling subtitles within MP (srt/sub/idx) (2 Viewers)

I originally used burnt-in subs for the forced subs, but The Davinci Code's were out by 1:16, so I switched to external.
I use AutoGK to create the sub file for the closed-captioned subs. AutoGK creates an idx file that Media Portal seems to need.
I use Subrip to rip the forced subs, if any. The author has a character set that can be downloaded here:
hxxp://foxyshadis.slightlydark.com/random/CharMatrix.rar (replace xx with tt)
Place it in the ChMatrix folder in the SubRip directory. (Thanks to Squash at videohelp.com). This character set includes italic letters & special letters such as an e with the ' over it.
Under options, there's a checkbox for 'Forced Subs Only'. I rip these to an srt file.
If the timing is off, Subrip can add or subtract time from the forced subs. It can also stretch them, but Subtitle Workshop might work better. With this program, you can put in the start of the first sub & the start of the last sub & it'll stretch them appropriately. I've never used the stretch option of Subrip. The problem with Subtitle workshop is that it doesn't work with .sub files. I haven't been able to find a program that will properly adjust the timing of .idx/.sub files.
I then put these files into the same folder that the movie is in.
I set up Media Portal as per Winux's post, except that I checked 'show forced subs only' in the main page of DirectVobSub's filter properties & add the path to the folder that the movies are in. It will automatically search sub-folders. Both DirectVobSub & the autoloading version show up.
I can then use the yellow button to cycle through subs off, forced subs (the srt file shows up as the movie name) & all subs (the sub/idx files). These show up as 'English'. If the .idx file is missing, I can't switch subs.
I think that if there is an .srt file along with both the .idx & .sub files, you should be able to cycle through them.

there is one problem with described method tho.
i added only DirectVobSub (auto-loading version) as a post-process filter in Movies section, but seems like DirectVobSub without auto-loading option is added automatically so i have two directvobsub filters there and subs are not showing.
i can untick checkbox of this one but it works only until mp (or configuration) restart.
are you expiriencing the same problem?

rgs,

Same here, subtitles working fine using the described method, unless you restart. Then you have to untick the directvobsub and start the "always load" again.

A fix would be nice here ;)

I have no problems with the described method.

I added vobsub to post-processing and configured it to never load automatically. When I play a movie with subs, it loads through MP and I can change language and deactivate.

I don't understand this. Which filters did you add then? directvobsub or directvobsud(auto-loading version) or both?

Which options did you set in any of these filters? I've seen that if I change the directvobsub filter option "no load" then it automatically changes in the directvobsub(autoloading) to "no load" too

It seems my memory has played tricks on me.

I've added both DirectVobSub and DirectVobSub (auto-loading version) in post-processing.

In DirectVobSub Config: Load when needed. |X| External | | Web |X| Embedded

Seems it does "forget" which filters are enabled and disabled. After I checked in order to help you it stopped working.

ONLY DirectVobSub (auto-loading version) should be enabled.

and the config should remain:
DirectVobSub Config: Load when needed. |X| External | | Web |X| Embedded

When you are sure ONLY the auto-loading version is enabled click OK to save and exit MP Config. Don't open the menu item Post-processing as it will enable all filters on the top list.

Please reply if my "guide" doesn't make sense :)

I am using 0.2.2.0 (no svn) and this trick makes me have control of .srt subs.
I can turn on and off the sub. I can however not control or turn off the subs in a .mkv file. I am using Haali splitter and if I change language in Haali manually it changes also in MP.

Is it possible to get control of the subs in MKV from within MP?

the best thing is to implement the haaly media splitter for the control of the sub (if you play a movie in windows and you have installed haali, it appears near the clock and you can control the audio and the subs)....i think that this thing will be not a problem for the team of mp

I do not know why this xml was in my theme folders, it must have sneaked in some time ago (years?). I simply removed the file. The Latest Media Handler plugin seems to be working as expected. I've had no lock-ups.
