So, you confirm that there is no external subtitling handling in mediaportal?
well, as far as i was able to dig into the code (prior to 0.2RC2 though, but i highly doubt enhancements took place in this area): vobsub is directly controlled by MP for DVDs only, for other media the code relies on the demuxer to choose the right stream (with the help from vobsub for Haali's Splitter). Maybe Haali's Splitter has some difficulties controlling vobsub if external subtitles must be loaded? Maybe it can't operate that way and MP needs explicit calls to vobsub, bypassing the demuxer? I can't be absolutely positive MP was not designed to control external subtitles but if there is some code related to this area then it's broken.
The checkbox "Show subtitles" was there for some "future" usage that was never implemented?
I think it is actually made to control vobsub. And the code is functional.
I will look inside the code from Monday (we have a carnival weekend here in Greece). Thank you for your interest,
thanks a lot for your helping hand! Whether you could just confirm this feature is really missing, broken or go as far as proposing a fix.

Finally, I have found the thread i was looking for!!!

I am having similar issues as everyone else.

I am not at the computer right now so don't quote me on these "specs" but i wil try to describe my setup.

I am playing an .avi file (pretty sure) with Japanese and English Audio. I installed the media splitter and that allowed me to select each audio that I want. This works great. Now, also in this .avi file there is English subs (for sure) and maybe Japanese subs. Since this file has English audio i would love to be able to turn the subtitles off. From what i have read i need to go out and download Vobsub. Hopefully this will work for me and allow me to turn the stuff on and off.

Like others have said it would be great for MP to handle all this stuff "correctly" and without all this messing and screwing with.

Hi

I just got my subtitles to work in Mediaportal and therefore I write this.

I use ffdshow for showing subtitles. The reason why I couldn't get it to work was becase I had checked "use only ffdshow in...." in the info & debug index in the ffdshow video decoder config. When I unchecked this and checked the the subtitle index the subtitles are showing fine inside Mediaportal.

Why didn't I notice this before..... :)

This just for your information.

Hi Nyll,

Do you mean you can toggle the subtitles on and off within MP or just display subtitles?

I'm having trouble toggling the subtitles on and off using the 'L' button....

i have no trouble toggle my subtitles if the file is an .mkv and the subs are build in the .mkv file.

I just use the Yellow button on my MP to do that.

What about *.srt *.sub *.ssa types of subtitles?

I can control whether or not I want to see them when MP is off via DirectVobSub but I can't toggle them on and off inside MP

Ok folks, ah...I'm having trouble with this.

My setup:

MP 0.2.2.0 (latest release) using MPV for video / MPA for audio
Haali Media Splitter 1.7.2.1
DirectVobSub 2.23

Settings:

MP set to display subtitles.
Within Videos/PostProcessing, MP set to use Haali Media Splitter
Within Haali Splitter configuration, autoload VobSub set to enabled

My MCE remote is the mark 2 alt version (without the colored buttons)
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Image:MCE-Remote-2-alt.jpg

Also: I have ffdshow installed but have not set MP to use it.

When I have add haali splitter to config/movies/postprocessing, the following behavior occurs:

-the 4 buttons which circle the "OK" button break in the following way:
-up/down, which is normally "major jump back/forward within the playing movie" becomes "reset to start of playback"
-left/right, which had been variable forward/back within the file now only bring up the OSD which shows START or END, but they don't actually navigate to either

Since my MCE remote is the "ALT" version & lacks the colored buttons I need to map subtitle on/off, select sub stream, & select audio stream to some other buttons. I tried the following:

Mapped RECORD to "all layers / no condition / action / show subtitles"
Mapped CHANNEL UP to "all layers/media is playing/next subtitle"
Mapped CHANNEL DOWN to "all layers/media is playing/next audio"

In this setup, channel up/down do nothing, but RECORD seems to fast forward the playback for a few seconds then settle it back down to normal playback rate.

What I want to to do:
playback ogm/mkv files with multiple audio/subtitle tracks, able to switch audio tracks with the remote & enable/switch tracks/disable subtitles with the remote as well. WHILE KEEPING my ability to jump around within the file via the 4 buttons circling "OK".

Er...please advise folks :)

Hi folks

Just wanna say, that you can toggle subtitles on/off with FFDshow inside Mediaportal by pressing ctrl+alt+s (default)

Nyll,

How did you find this out?

Can this function be mapped to a remote?

I do not know why this xml was in my theme folders, it must have sneaked in some time ago (years?). I simply removed the file. The Latest Media Handler plugin seems to be working as expected. I've had no lock-ups.
