Can anyone walk me through setting up with direct tv? I have been at this all day. I am just unable to change channels via my serial port. Do I have to use xmltv in order to be able to change channels?

Thanks

I thought DirecTV was working. What happening with the plugin? I always find it disappointing that someone abandons MP for another HTPC frontend, before anyone has chance to helpout - no matter the problem. I just think MP is such a fantastic platform.

I am still at it as a matter a fact. The thing was taht I was frustrated and urgently needed to record some shows over the weekend. MP's recording capabilities was excellent when i tested it but I needed to be able to change my channels automatically when I was not here for a couple of hours. I tried all the plugins for direct tv dating back to the very first one but none of them seemed to work. Have some time on my hands and am reinstalling MP to try yet again as we speak. I am sure the serial cable is ok becuse I can change the channels on the direct tv box with other programs. The box is a D10-300 just in case there is something I am missing that somebody knows. The plugin lists support up to D10-200 but so do the plugins for GBPVR and the support built into snapstream's beyond TV and I have gotten them to work with my hauppauge wintv pvr2 usb2 using the remote. Anyway I am still on it.

I also went with GBPVR. I really tried to get DirecTV up and running, but it was way too hard. I spent many hours working on it. GBPVR took only a couple of minutes, even though it is not as nice. Meedio was the best for setup, but my system wasn't powerful enough to run the TV. All you did was click directv on the service providers and let it know how you were controlling your box, and it worked. So, in conclusion

Media Portal - >10 hrs (unsuccessful)
    GBPVR - 30 minutes successful
Meedio < 1min (picture quality not great)

I put in more than ten hours and still havent got it working. Am using GBPVR till it gets figured out. Its not as advanced as Media Portal but between the documentation provided and quick responses from their forum I was able to get the serial port controlling my direct tv box running in a jippy. Not giving up though. I am certain its just something minor that needs to be done.

Sorry, I didn't get email notifications on these latest replies. I just came here to report I solved the problem after adjusting power settings for "Intel Graphics". I set it to Maximum Performance. I tried many other things so it could be a combination of them, but this was the last thing I did and I haven't had the problem return...

I meant use MP client to try to spot how it's requesting streams for specific channels and then try to do the same with VLC. TV Server development looks dead so I'm afraid you're going to have to figure that out by yourself if it's even possible.

Thanks very much, Jasmeet. Worked. But note that this setting has moved, apparently, to: Settings > TV (not Plugins)
