The only workaround is to run MediaPortal in singleprocessor affinity.

That causes some issues like coreavc not to able to use dual core CPUs. So its not a perfect sollution. Currently the perfect sollution on my HTPC is to use non-ATI card, unfortunately that might be the only "good" sollution as there isnt that much MP rendering engine knowledge in the team anymore and the engine itself is pretty "spagethi" code.

I have already given up on fixing the issue, it just has taken too much on my free time and as a workaround it doesnt cost that much to buy a Nvidia 8600GS.

Who knows, hopefuly not. I'm not even 100% sure that its MP issue, well maybe 0.1% change that its ATI driver bug as the EVR & VMR9 are pretty similar (almost the same) from the rendering engine point of view. So it could be something in ATI DXVA2 implementation.

Pre-requirements:
- Windows Vista 
- Vista PowerScheme is NOT set to "high performance" 
- Dual core CPU 
- Video card made by ATI 
- Video card must support HW decoding for mpeg2 or h.264 
- use Videocodec in MediaPortal which supports HW decoding and HW decoding is enabled in the codec's settings

I'm on XP Home, and using Nvidia 7600GT. Everything else applies. I think there are/were a few others in this thread that have the issue with Nvidia also (although not many).

Under XP there is no good reason for using the EVR as its only software based.

EVR with XP should work. Some months ago I had XP SP3 with Net 3.5 installed, and used the PowerDVD H264-codec with EVR and Mediaportal. DXVA-compatible MKVs worked without problems with very low CPU usage.

sorry, not using EVR, I am using VMR9 (although I did try EVR at one point). At points in this thread, VMR9 and Nvidia have come up which is why I hung around If this is only being troubleshot as Vista/ATI I'll quietly bow out...

Yes, flickering is also visible using VMR9 in Vista - (if I scroll through the EPG for example) but not as strong as using EVR.

Yes, I am aware of that this is a workaround... But still if you only use Cyberlink and DXVA(2) it is a good workaround since you don't need that much CPU since the GPU does the job. But of course if would prefer to use both my CPU cores...

Is it frodo who have designed the rendering engine or? Is he around anymore?

yupp, same here. Far less flickering but still noticable if you scroll through the guide.
