Flickering Tv-guide and other overlays with EVR enabled (7 Viewers)

Hi Guys,
I'm not sure if this is mentioned elsewhere in this thread (I've had a quick scan but it is very long...), but there may be a workaround that some of you might find useful to avoid a flickering TV Guide?
Originally I had a flicking problem in the TV Guide that only appeared when I was live previewing the current show. It then went away one day (not sure why - new setup etc)... but recently I was playing with the picture settings (as you do
) and then a day later I noticed the dreaded flicker was back in the TV Guide (arrggghhh!!!). I think the flicker (in my case at least) is caused by drawing some of the TV Guide text in the wrong place on screen...
Anyway - fortunately I know what I did that caused it (woohoo!). I had adjusted the crop settings on the TV view from the context menu when watching live TV. A bit of testing and I've found a definite cause/effect (for me at least). When I turn on crop picture for top/bottom of picture, the TV guide will then flicker in future. Maybe it is some de-interlacing / resize bug with the preview?
So if you have a flicker... I suggest you watch TV, bring up the context menu, go to crop settings. If you have a cropped image, then try setting all the values to 0. Then stop viewing TV, and start again, go to TV Guide (and cross your fingers etc)... Interesting enough, I still have left and right crops on and they don't seem to affect it.
It works for me. The flicker is now gone (and I don't crop the top/bottom of the picture). Hopefully it can help someone else out - if they have the same cause. I'd be interested to know if anyone else notices the same thing.

Some of my latest changes (changing the input queue / switching to managed code render clock) might help to improve the flickering issue. Please test the upcoming SVN build if Catalyst 8.12 didn't fix it completely for you.

I just tested a Radeon 4550 with Mediaportal and Catalyst 8.12 on Vista x64. Still the same flicker (most present if you have TV on and go to My pictures) - even with this powerful card - and there is not less and not more flicker than with the Radeon 3200 (equal). ATI is still the first choice for a HTPC because it does have a better video quality for SD and HDTV content. This is really an Mediaportal problem after all it seems.
I just tried an old trick shown in this thread - to force Mediaportal to only work with one processor core.
I downloaded the little file from site 9 of this thread and installed it with "sdbinst mediaportal_compat.sdb".
...... and now the flickering is totally gone! (using PowerDVD 8 codec and DXVA on). Even in very stressful situations - it's gone! Together with Catalyst 8.12 of course.
Is this a sync issue within Mediaportal that it doesn't seem to like Multi-Core CPUs...? I don't understand that...

Yes - but if you want to use skins which have a worse effect on that flickering you might want to try ATI's own codec or ffdshow (with hardware deinterlacing) for SD content. IMHO this is the best compromise - you get the quality of ATI but don't suffer from the flickering.
Btw: using indigo with current SVN on AMD 780G gives me something like 1 flash in 10 seconds...

I am using Bleazle as skin - this skin does have many animation effects - there is definately no flicker any more if I run Mediaportal on one core. Also other problems I had before - like stuttering video playback sometimes (playing back 25 fps on 60 Hz) - is solved. Video playback is now equal compared to DVB Viewer and Media Players like MPC.
