Is this a admin account you are trying to run MP on, or is it a user account, because i could never saitisfactorily get it to run on either.
Instead i followed these instructions, and now vista does what i want it to do, with UAC enabled.

The electronic program guides (tvguide.xml) have been successfully transferred to MediaPortal.
