This link is for Cyberlink DVD 8 Ultra. I started the setup and it said it was installing version 8, but I didn't continue because I'm on my computer at work.

Download CyberLink PowerDVD

I'll install it on my media system at home this weekend and report if it is not version 8.

Sounds like it's just about time to move up to 1.02. I'm still on 1.0 because I hate all the tweaking to get the updated versions going.

Great work by everyone. Thanks!!

Patch for AC3 DD

Hey guys,
as I said I would try to do, I put together a small patch to better handle channel changes when using SPDIF sound.
The problem was the sound would stutter, specially to/from a channel in Dolby Digital.

I attached the DLL. This was build on today's latest SVN (22732) and should work with 1.0.2
I also attached a patch file. It's not much changes, it was just the time to figure out which call to do and to test.
All this patch does is stop the timeshift before tuning to a channel instead of pausing it. I added a 4 second delay to allow the HD PVR to redetect the audio stream. So channel changes are slower, but no stuttering:)

I hope someone can help me out here :)

- Running Vista 64bit with SP1. (Aeroskin against tearing).
- Mediaportal 1.02
- Drop discontinued packets set on or off: no difference
- enable dynamic refresh rate changer: no difference.

I've been using PDVD8 codec + the HD PVR for a while now for TV.
It worked fine with the old drivers, but no SPDIF. Then i upgraded to driver version 1.0.5.3 or so..which still didnt fix my SPDIF but did introduce huge stabillity issues. I then decided to upgrade to the 1.5.6.0 beta drivers, which seem to work better then all previous ones..but theres one big but...i suddenly have jitter every 5-10 seconds in mediaportal. There are no syncing issues though. It all runs fine except for the jitter.

Any ideas on what can be done about this or has anyone experienced the same issues?
I also get the jitter with other codecs then PDVD8, but when running the arcsoft tool directly i have no jitter at all. It seems to happen in mediaportal only.

Also when i use the other codecs (E.g. MP-HC, ffdshow, ATI Mpeg Decoder) i get slowmotion in TV mode with the HD PVR, but the same codecs work fine when running movies or episodes.
The PDVD8 codec is the only codec that plays the video at normal speed in MyTV.

My advice is to not use SPDIF. I know it's tempting, since it technically works, but in my experience it still has way too many problems, especially with Mediaportal. I've never gotten it to work very well.

I know 1.10 has some big fixes planned for the TV server, maybe wait it out for that in the meantime?

Right now im actually not using the SPDIF option anymore.
However i am reluctant to move back to the packaged drivers as those weren't without problems either and i am not sure if i can roll back to them without issue.

In between the three different driver versions for the HD PVR i also upgraded mediaportal 4 times (0.2 , 1.0 , 1.01 , 1.02, installed some vista patches and upgraded my display driver and changed a load of configurations :p.
Rolling back the HD PVR driver to the packaged version makes me nervous :D The last step i took though was to go to the 1.5.6.0 HD PVR drivers, which is why i'm very sure the jitter comes from these drivers. Jitter asside, it's the most stable version. There's not really one perfect version anyway :(

Have you ever heard about slowmotion issues with codecs other then PDVD8 with the HD PVR? I have had that issue since day 1 with the HD PVR, no matter what driver version, display driver, etc.

I used to use the Arcsoft drivers (and CoreAVC before that) with no slowdown issues. I've only recently switched to the PowerDVD ones, and that's more for quality reasons.

The problem is there are just too many factors in play to say it's any one thing. I use 1.5.6 with no jitter issues, but I've worked through plenty of others. What resolution are you feeding your HDPVR from your STB? Is it the native resolution of the tv? Any upscaling that is done anywhere along the signal path could bring problems you normally wouldn't notice to light. For example, a lot of people seem to have problems using 1080i with Media Portal.

Or it could be a lot of things. I have one tv server, and two clients, plus I run MP on my office PC from time to time. Out of the 4, one PC (in my living room) gave me constant trouble. Keep in mind it was the same hardware as 2 of the other PC's. I ended up reformatting it in a fit of rage one day, installed the Windows 7 RC (figuring if all else failed I'd switch to Media Center - I was that po'd :) ), installed 1.02, then installed SAF 3.47 and the PowerDVD 8 demo - no Arcsoft software, no other codecs.

Now, of course, that client works perfectly, at 1080i (it's a 1080p set like the others), even using the Cyberlink Audio driver (which never worked for me before). I mean, it's smooth as silk. So who knows? Like I said, there are just so many things that can go wrong with this kind of home brew setup.

What are your timeshift settings? I'm using a ram disk and only notice slow motion for the first 1/2 second when theshifting starts.

You could also try using DPC Latency Checker
This will analyse your hardware in live mode and tell you if there's latency issues. Run MP in a window, run dpc checker for a seconds before timeshifting and then start timeshifting. See what is reported when you are experiencing slow motion.

Also, while running in MP windowed mode, use Graph Edit or Graph Studio and connect to the remote graph. See what filters are part of the graph. Perhaps just post a screenshot for us.

For drivers, I'm using 1.0.5.301 which has been updated in March 2009.

Have you tried TME? do you have same issues?
