I'll give ya a brief rundown microwav, and you might have to go back in this forum to fill in the blanks. But, here we go:

    1. Install all drivers for the HD-PVR. This includes the copy of Total Media Extreme it comes with (you'll need the codecs and the software for testing)
    2. Install SAF (standalone filter package). Search the forums, dunno where it's located since the overhaul
    3. Install PDVD8 - I'll leave this one up to you if you install the full version or just a trial to get the codecs (if you look back a couple of pages, I found a link to a trial copy of 8, which can be pretty hard to find now that 9 is out)
    4. Register an account with Schedules Direct - Not completely necessary, but by far the easiest way to deal with your EPG data and it's only $20/yr
    5. Install MP and TV-Server
    6. Set your codec settings to whatever we all discovered a couple of pages back. Mostly use the PDVD8 codec for h.264 (works the best with the HD-PVR)
    7. Download the schedulesdirect plugin for TV3 and install.
    8. Turn on the plugin in TV3, enter your account info, and set it to download upon next TV Service restart. Also, set the input for new channels to YPbBr1
    9. Reboot your computer or restart the TV Service in your services.msc
    10. You'll now find that your Channel List should be populated
    11. Link all of the channels to your HD-PVR.
    12. Enjoy your new setup.

Wow!! Thanks Chesh!! I really appreciate your efforts. You've given me some good insight. I do have just a couple of questions. Should I do fresh install of MP and or Windows to get thing running smoothly? Any word on how the HD-PVR is with 4The Record?

    Thanks Again!!

Well, I'd say at the very least, do a fresh install of TV3. If everything else has been working fine, stick with it. If you have issues, you should be able to save your Moving Pictures and My TV Series databases using the backup plugin. 4TR works really well with MP. I've been doing some testing with the guys over there on the Schedulesdirect plugin, and now everything synchronizes perfectly with the HD-PVR and MP. There's still some other minor issues with the plugin, but it's up to you to decide if you can deal until they're fixed.

Question for you though, are you using cable or satellite? Do you have other cards installed in your server? If you have cable and you have clearqam/ATSC/analog input cards and you want to use them all in conjunction, see my post here. Obviously replace with anything in my last post as updated instructions for the codec stuff. That's the easiest way to combine multiple cards with the same line-up.

    Thanks for the info.
I am currently set up with a Hauppauge 2250 (dual tuner) running clearqam and analog cable. Along with an old Hauppague 150 card. I have been debating on hooking up my cable box to my HTPC via the HD-PVR but I wasn't too sure on how much of a headache its going to be.

Then you'd almost definitely want to follow my post in the ATSC forums. You probably already know how bad it is to link up all the clearQAM channels. If you export your current lineup you can at least reference back to it using MS Excel in XML edit mode as I explain in that post. That way you could at least skip the first half of going through that process. Really it isn't that bad once you've done it once or twice. I recently had to scan through all my clearQAMs again because Comcast decided to change the whole lineup in my area. If you've dealt with that in the past, then you're ready for this. It's really nice to be able to record your HD channels without any worries about copy protection, and you can record with full 1080i/p. One other side note, look a couple of pages back for sjeffery's and WileE's different .dll files for the TV3 server for faster PMT tuning. That makes a huge difference in how fast it can tune. If you get the HD-PVR you won't be disappointed if you just follow some of the guidance in this forum.

Awesome info Chesh! You have been more than helpful! I just got new a HDTV and I am looking forward to the HD PVR, it will be a few weeks before I can get one, but I will most defiantly be following your advice when I do.

You probably already know how bad it is to link up all the clearQAM channels.

Oddly enough this was the easy part. For whatever reason COX list the channel name for the ClearQAM single. Call me lucky but I never had a problem with this part. When I tried Beyond TV I had go through the channels manually and gave up. Made the move to media portal and couldn't be happier. Thanks again.

Okay i have a question hopefully someone can help. I am wondering how to do blast the IR signal to the STB i have everything set up picture running smoothly except i can only use my cable's remote to change channels how do you set it up so that i can use the guide in MP to change your channels.I saw in original post that no IR supoport is available for the HDPVR so i am curious as to what people use. Any help would be great I am just curious how you have the computer blast over to the STB box i believe i need a USBUIRT but dont want to spend the money untill i am positive it will work.

Probably the tsreader bug rearing it's ugly head. It's due to be fixed in 1.1 (I hope).

Save yourself a lot of time and trouble and just buy a USB-UIRT already. It works, and works well, and while there are other ways to get the built in blaster on the HDPVR to work (you can search around for posts by me, I updated a plugin for it a while back) it's really not that good. The USB-UIRT, on the other hand, changes channels about as fast as you can manually, consistently. It's a good investment.
