I still doubt a dual-core CPU + 2 GB ram cant maintain 1080i. I'm even running 1080P on a much weaker laptop without issue with various codecs.

I've found in real-world use that a pretty decent CPU/Northbridge is needed to receive streams from a MP TV server using the HDPVR to a client, if we're talking about true 720p or 1080i streams from an STB. Even though the HDPVR compresses it via h.264 it's still a pretty high bitrate stream, in real time, that needs to be decoded and output after it's received over the network, in as near real time as it can be. That's quite different than, for example, receiving a prerecorded VC-1 or h.264 stream, because unlike live those can be buffered/read ahead.

My AMD 4850e dual-core CPU wasn't up to the task, primarily due to it being HT 2.0 and not HT 3.0 (about 1gb difference in memory transfer speed in layman's terms). Only after I upgraded to a Phenom II CPU, which had the same cores/clock speed but supported HT 3.0, did my problems completely go away.

I still believe, from what he's posted, that the OP has a different problem - it doesn't sound like he's far enough along to even know if he has performance issues yet :). If the CPU/NB/Memory wasn't up to the task he'd still get picture and audio, just with a lot of stuttering.

Actually his last post mentioned 720P was working fine but 1080i gave stutter/problems.
It's not such a giant leap from decoding 720P to 1080i which is why i thought it could be network related issues, not CPU, because as far as i can tell in TME, 1080i does run at a higher bitrate when using the default settings.

I'm surprised your AMD couldn't handle it. Like i said, i run 720P/1080i TV streams (Actually i mentioned 1080P content..true..but the TV streams also run fine) on a dualcore centrino laptop and even that runs fine.

Buffering doesn't help much if a PC isn't capable of decoding at a fast enough speed. At some point it would have to start buffering again which still leads to stuttering. (Unless you buffer say, 3 hours ahead :p)

I missed where he said 720p was working fine. Last I read he wasn't getting any picture and/or audio at all.

1080i technically isn't any harder than 720p to process. Also, your dual core centrino laptop CPU/Memory bus is actually faster than the AMD 4850e with Hyperthreading 2.0 :)

Anyway, if the problem for him is 720p vs. 1080i, then it's important to remember that tsreader still has a bug, due to be fixed in 1.1.0, with some 1080i sources. I ended up switching back to 720p for the time being - I just had too many channels with problems. 720p is solid.

I get some error when using it, I just reinstalled it though. =[ will post in a sec.

    "failure to locate assembly 'gentle.framework, Version=1.2.9.1286, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=80b5de62e27be49b'.
Note that the configuration program must be executed from/reside in the MediaPortal folder, the exucution will now end.

I should further clarify, this happens after I enter my Schedules Direct password and push enter or try to navigate to another part of TV Server Config

EDIT: haha, use the updated version in the thread. 1.1b, found toward the end of the thread

Can you remind me how it finds channels? I've let it sit for 2 hours, and scanned for channels a few times. Nothing. Does it just add them automatically when the plugin and schedules direct get on the same page?

    thanks guys

There is an option on the SD plugin advanced tab that says something like "update guide next time tv server starts" - click that option on and then go to the Manual tab in TV server config to stop and restart the server - you can also monitor the TV server logs while the schedules are updating - you should see the request for the channels and then the programs on those channels. It can take up to about 1 hour to get all of the programs - just a few minutes to get all of the channels. The log should also tell you if there is a problem.

Edit: make sure you set up your SD account by logging in over there first and choosing your lineups.
