It says installation is successful but when I open the MP in brings me the configuration page.

Question: did you successfully run the Configuration program at least once before you tried to open MP?
The first time in Configuration when you clivk on the OK button, the mediaportal.xml file is created. Without that, MP will just revert to Configuration.

I had the same problem last night with an install of 1.0.
Goto the start menu and find Media portal that way rather than through the shortcut - if that works just change the shortcut on your desktop to point to the same place as the one on the start menu, I think it is bug with the installation process.

On the first startup of MediaPortal shortcut the configuration is opened by default.
After configuring and closing it, MediaPortal will open the next time you start it.

That was what I had hoped until I had tried it three times in a row & made sure I changed something inside the config to ensure it thought I had done something.

Can you confirm if the file mediaportal.xml was successfully created?
On XP it should be at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal
On Vista try C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal

Thank you guys for all your thoughtful comments. After several times formating my hard drive I finally got it to work and now I can see mediaportal.xml.bak in my Media Portal.
I am sure I will have more questions as I am planning to use TV and other functions in the screen and I will boder you very soon with them.
The software looks wonderful; hundreds of thanks to the developer and you guys for your help.
