Aaron - and-81

I loaded and tried IR Server to be used only with TV2 (single user no MP-server) because my blaster function would not work with MCE Replacement Plugin when recording a scheduled recording (with the requirement to change to a different channel or select a channel on a second STB). It did blast okay to change channels on both boxes when stepping through the guide on MP and looking at TV but not in the Scheduled Recording routine.

With IR Server, all I want to do is what is described above. I want TV channels on two different STB's to be selected by blasting from MP single user when it is a Scheduled Recording.

When trying IR Server I was not sure which modules to load when installing. For my simple requirement, can I be advised (a short cut to success!)? My trial after learning the two sets of IR Remotes 0 to 9, the testing fired out quick successions of the number. For example, if I tested 1, the STB received about 3 to 5 1's, ie 111 or 11111.

Is there a vital setting which I am missing?

And I too wish to sincerely thank you for your dedication and effort.

    YES!!! SUCCESSES!
Well, I am a stubborn fool so I think I deserved this :D
My "solution" was to use TVE3.

    Spragleknas:

This problem you've had is really quite strange.

Everything you've said makes sense to me, but why it's not working inside MediaPortal ? I have no idea.

Maybe there is some sort of security permission on the MediaPortal.exe ...

Even though you have solved it yourself I'll look into it some more ...

    johnrw:

There is a bug in MediaPortal's TV Engine 2 that prevents reliable channel changing for scheduled recordings when you use more than one Set Top Box. A fix was put in but it had catastrophic and unexplainable side effects. The only solution is to move to TV Engine 3.

If you want to try you'll need the IR Server, and either the TV2 or TV3 Blaster plugin. Also, to control mediaportal on the same machine you need the MP Control plugin. Everything else is fluff :)

    Cheers,

    Well,

I've finally found the problem that a lot of people have been having that has mysteriously stopped the IR Server Suite from working properly.

It seems to be a problem with the Named Pipes IPC communication process I'm using. I've been meaning to move away from Named Pipes for some time now ... well now I have the motivation to do it!

Apart from the communications problem that exists it seems that the rest of the IR Server Suite is working quite well... so expect a new test version as soon as I've completed the comms transition from Named Pipes to UDP.

    Cheers,

    Great!

Btw, if I'd like to install only the required parts of IRSS for set-top control @ TVE3, it would be IR Server and TV3 blaster plugin - thats all, right? Do I need the MCE replacement driver or is the e-Home driver just as good?

    That's right.

eHome driver is just as good.

In the new version of IR Server Suite I'm no longer including the MCE Replacement Driver because I've got a way to make the eHome driver behave the same way.

Just mucking around with the new communications process now ... it's doing my head in, but hopefully it will integrate with the old code without too much more mucking around.

    Cheers,

    Serial Output

    Hi Aaron or anybody

I been trying out the suite, and IT WORKS fine for my use so far. I have been trying to have Mediaportal to turn on my screen. A panasonic plasma via serial. Can't really figure out what to put in to the parameter box. Could you maybe help me with the parameter. I have attached a pic from the manual, showing the panasonic codes.

    Cheers

    tlambertsen:

Try this for a power on command:

    \x02hPON\x03h

See the attached picture for more details.

Let me know how you get on.

    cheers,

I ended up trying with one STB (the SKY TV NZ box) on TV2 using only IR Server and TV2 Blaster Plugin and nothing else. If I tried learning the Sky TV remote 0 to 9, the blast sends many multiples of the channel number. If I tried a preconfigured Pace SkyNZ 6000 rather than learn the remote and it worked perfectly even though my Sky TV STB is a DS230NNZ model.
