AW: LEDcontroller: control your LED's & HTPCmonitor: keep an eye on your PC

Feels like i've tested everything now. Seems like it won't work with 1.2.0.0. Can anyone verify this?

    Hi,
does anybody know if the plugin runs with Mp 1.2?

    thanks Clyde

Sorry for the slow reply, but I didn't try 1.2 Alpha.

I have just installed 1.2 Beta and I can confirm that LEDcontroller works with this version of MP.

OK, I will try that later and let you know how I get on.

By the way, this is the LED display I have built.

It seems to do the job.

That looks awesome, where did you get the box from?

I am pretty sure it is this one: Small Narrow Box : Plastic Enclosures : Maplin

To be honest, I don't use this too much anymore. I have moved to a client server setup and don't use the NAS, so I don't need to have a light telling me when the NAS is powered as all my data is on the MP server.

I do still have the this box on top of the server though so that I can see the TV card usage at a glance.

By the way, I found that the cables which you used to have to use to connect the audio from the CDROM drive to the motherboard work well in place of a COM Port connector. The end that plugged into the motherboard (the 4 pin connector) has the same pin spacing as the COM Port pins, so using 2 of them will give you enough to wire up the three LEDs (clearly it is your own risk to use this method though :) )

Hey, that's handy I've got a Maplins near me :D

I mainly want to build this for my brother's HTPC so he can see if it's recording, etc when his TV is off, but it might be quite cool for my own as well.

I was planning on using the motherboard COM header as my motherboard doesn't have a serial port, but I think my brother's motherboard might only have the backplate header so I'll just wire up a cable. Nice tip about using the CDROM cable anyway, I'm sure I've got a few of them knocking around.

I know this thread is quite old, so please don't shun me too bad. I just wanted to say that this little application is awesome and was just what i was looking for. I can confirm that the verson in post #1 works just fine with MP 1.2.2.

I do have one question for ocram... This app works great with MediaPortal, but I have since switched to ForTheRecord instead of the MediaPortal TV Server and can't seem to get it working. I saw you were posting on the FTR forum a couple years ago about writing an application to support FTR recording status (I can only assume it's this app). When I checked last night, I was unable to find anywhere to configure a trigger for ForTheRecord - all I saw was MediaPortal. Any chance that I am missing something, and/or you still have that nifty little app that does support ForTheRecord laying around?

    Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I think I never implemented that, and won't be doing either, I just looked and I have thrown my source files away.
    So development is dead.

Sorry to hear that this program's development is dead. I just hooked up a nice set of LEDs with this program and it works great, just what my HTPC was missing. I always wanted some visual info on what my HTPC was doing and now I have it.

But there is one feature I really wanted that LED controller couldn't do, which is to let me know when my system is accessing the internet. So I made a workaround for it. I wrote a program which monitors my network adapter and checks for a significant amount of bytes sent/received. When it senses significant activity, it starts another program called "Flag". When activity stops, it stops Flag. Then I set LED Controller to turn on a LED whenever the process Flag is active. Now I have a LED which turns on whenever I have network activity. It's a rather convoluted solution but it works well. If anyone else is interested in this program, let me know and I will share it.

By the way, when I set LED Controller to monitor "CPU Usage - High" it stops working. None of the lights work anymore. Anyone else have this problem?

I am about to to upgrade my htpc where I use MP1. I wonder if it will run on an ARM based CPU with Win11 or just x64 and x86?
