......... troubleshooting starts by opening up TV Server manual control, starting a stream, and monitoring the counters and signal info... and also opening task manager -> performance tab -> resource monitor to check which processes are using CPU and HDD. You'd be looking for:
  • processes that are thrashing the HDD and/or CPU
  • any event (eg. process CPU usage peak, signal strength or quality drop) that correlates with discontinuity counter increasing
...........

OK...on this again!!!
In Manual Control....there a 0 discontinuities.....after several attempts at timeshifting (with and without recording!)

Resource monitor shows that CPU processing can be as high as 95% (Processes)....but I'm unsure as to what I'm looking for in the panes available...:(

So to be clear: the discontinuity counter is now 0 (or not increasing), and CPU is sometimes hitting 95%. Have I understood correctly?
    Sounds like a different problem.

Just look for the process that is using the 95% CPU.

.....Now hovering around 35%....with no obvious problems.
Perhaps I could take a screenshot of the relevant window when the problem next occurs?

35% is relatively high considering your CPU, and the fact that you have a GPU that supports hardware accelerated video decoding (DXVA).
Have you enabled DXVA in the LAV video codec settings?

...or maybe the first question should be: what process is using 35% CPU?

Perhaps I could take a screenshot of the relevant window when the problem next occurs?
Sure, screenshot everything. The more the better. :)

I'm about to head off to bed.

    Does this help??
Well, it confirms that MP is using more CPU than I think it should, so that is useful. I can't tell anything more than that.

I had selected CUVID......so have now switched to DXVA2 (native)......will report back if this makes a difference...
Yeah, please do report back either way.
...and it would be good if you could confirm whether:
    1. You're still having trouble with the glitchy video (?).
    2. The current behaviour of the discontinuity counter.

Can you please post a "discontinuities-gone-beserk" screenshot of task manager.

I wonder if it is something to do with Comodo or uTorrent?
