Localization of the MediaPortal installer and user interface (1 Viewer)

The correct way is to provide a strings_xx.xml specific to the plugin ( like language\movingpictures\strings_it.xml ) and put all the translations there, plugin name as well.
Or provide a field in the configuration pane of the plugin itself to "rename" it.

Our official language files will _not_ incorporate those.

Are these plugin specific language files in the subfolders loaded automatically by MediaPortal, or does the plugin delevoper take care of those?

Recently used the tool for OnlineVideos and couldn't get it to do my russian translation, because it doesn't save in utf-8 encoding! Can someone modify the tool to save utf-8 instead of the current iso-8859-1?

Just checked the code:

case frmMain.StringsType.MediaPortal_1:
          writer = new StreamWriter(xml, false, Encoding.UTF8);
          writer.Write("<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"?>\n");

So I don't see where it fails.

Can you tell me the steps you use to get the translation done please ?

Well since the xml's first line is:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>

I would say that code is not executed in my case.


I used the MovingPictures Menu Entry and then chose the dir where the en-US.xml file is and entered some cyrillic letters and did save. The resulting file is not uft-8. (It always saves in non utf-8 not matter what letters are entered).

ok, then I'll ask MovPic and TVSeries plugin devs if I can switch to UTF8 for them so I'll have only 1 entry for "plugins".
