Well he's free to do that, and i really dont mind it
But as said, we dont want others to use our ideas/code/gfx for MP-II before we released it.
As soon as we released it, it will be opensource and everyone can look at it and copy it
(as long as they follow the GPL license offcourse)

    I understand your point ;)

What I was trying to say was not that he is violating any open-source matter but I think the ideas you are creating for MP2 are not open-source after all (the code is / will be however). "Developing" something and saying that the idea is not stolen is what I don't like.

To bring the thread back to where it was a few pages ago....

I would like something like aptitude (linux users know what I mean...). A tool from which you can update or install packages, like skins, plugins, possibly from within MP.

Something like "The following plugins are available: ..... install". Possibly combined with MP installer.

    my 42 cents ;-)

this is called MPI (MediaPortal Installer) which is allready integrated in MediaPortal 0.2.3.0.
it allows you to install skins, plugins and TV-Logos.

in the future it will play a stronger part. :)

Yeh open source should be about sharing information to make things better for everyone :) That's what the whole movement was built on. Just like how Xbox media Center did the RAR streaming, now everyone wants that and the code is free to browse and use in other apps. If anyone has ever tried writing something from scratch without consulting example code or other projects they find it very hard.

The fact that there are now 3 HTPC apps trying to integrate a WPF engine is great news and people should be helping each other I think. Frodo has a good point that he wants it to work properly before other apps look at it and improve the thing, nothing wrong with that. Competition always makes products stronger, even in the open source community so all is good I think with different front ends.

I personally run both Meedio and Media portal as they both have strengths and weaknesses, so yes I post on both forums :) Glad to see you are reading over there Frodo :)

As said i don't have a problem with you posting in both forums
And others are free to copy things from MP-II when its released as long as they follow GPL

But before they copy things/ideas we want to make sure that our own community gets to see MP-II first

Don't be so pride, i don't want to start a flame, i'm just defending the position and attitude of Zag2me... don't you like critics? go away then... I'm just posting my thoughts and my point of view... and, yes, i don't have any Open Source project... why? because i don't believe in open source philosophy... for me a good example of the open source problems are here, in MP....

But, it's just my modest oppinion, i hope that it don't bother you..

    regards,

    good post.

what i would love to see in the new MP.
    1) New and better media player. Kinda of something based on MPC. Lite, Easy, Great Performance in PQ and AQ. Plays all video encoded formats out of the box but has advanced settings for setting external codecs for advanced users.

    2) centralized database for everything (Movies, Music, configuration, plugins) This has already been suggested.

    3) Improved HD video playback. Currently mpeg2 HD transport streams don't even start playing.

I didn't even know MPI could fetch installable extension lists from the net before. Now that you said that I took a quick look for it and found it was "hidden" in extension manager.

What confused me was that when you open MPI you get menu where is Install extension and that just allows you to install MPI-packages already on local drive. IMHO it should go to extension manager straight away when you open the MPI and there could be buttons or tabs or something for making extension (not used by normal users anyway) and option to install MPI from file.
