Hey, lots of thanks for your work, but do the 2 zip files work with RC1. I replaced my Core.dll (saved the old one ;)) and when I wanted to launch MediaPortal I got an Error from Vista:

"MediaPortal.exe doesn't work anymore" (Translated from German)

Got an idea?

new clueless user

Hi,

I've just sacked off vista media center in favour of MediaPortal (its a thing of beauty so far) so i'm very new to the system. C# developer by trade so will hopefully build something to contribute once i get my head round it all. anyway....

Mediaslayer looks like a killer app as far as ease of use for the wife so thanks for putting together the only seamless solution i've found for any media player platform. but i can't for the life of me get it working i've installed dvd decrypter and grabbed the mplayer package i just threw the mencode app in the root folder and another copy in the plugin/window folder (niave i imagine) but when i launch the plugin all i get is the rip and about buttons and cant make anything happen. So i assume i have to have a MediaPlayer.xml file somewhere with the settings in etc but i don't appear to have a MediaPlayer.xml file anywhere. Am i i missing something obvious?

Cheers

Steve

I knew there would be an obvious solution never thought to right click the plugin..

I love Mediaportal!

I'm especially chuffed with the fact i can just switch back to watching tv and leave it running, awesome job guys!

FEATURE REQUEST:

Add a percentage complete bar while ripping a DVD. I know that you can't pull it from DVD decrypter, BUT, you could build one!!! I found out that when you start to write a file to the HD, the OS keeps track a several bits of info. The size of the file, and the SIZE ON DISK. Size of the file is, well, the size of the file. the Size on disk is the actual amount of disk space that file is taking up. As a file is being ripped, that file size continues to GROW. So with some math, you can come up with a display for percentage complete while ripping a DVD!!!

I am not sure of the actual terms, but I used this exact method to feed a progress bar in a Winbatch Script for work. That led me to post this.

thoughts??

thanks

does a way exist to define the mp3bitrate ?

Nope, one of the main idea of this plugin is that it is simple to configure and use. High quality settings are used.

You have to replace both dlls, core and windowplugins, to get this to work. RC1 compiled files are now in first message as those you used are for 0.2.3.0 + SVN as stated in bonus section.

How about not using a DVD Decrypter at all? Mencoder has an option to copy audio and video as it is and then we can use IMAPIv2 to write those files to iso format. All these tasks can have progress bars + some other bells and whistles. And there is even more possibilities: erasing discs or burning files natively inside MP. Have to study this a bit before we are ready to launch!

    You are such a tease!

Could you make a 4:3 skin to use in Blue Two or Project Mayhem III? The virtual keyboard in Monochrome is very difficult to use on my 4:3 TV ... the keys completely overlap the entry box. And the text size is almost too small to read for the menus and imdb listing.

    Thanks

Everytime I try to rip a CD Mediaslyer copys the first Wav File and then aborts with the error message - "The system cannot find the file specified".

Any logs or at least song title. If there is some special chars in title that can happen - wild guess. Song names will be converted to safe names but you never know.

I took my a few days but now I finally found the issue. It has nothing to do with the song title. It seems that there is some weird interdependency between the Mediaslayer Plugin and Vizualisations. As soon as I add a sonique Vizualisation to the Music engine Mediaslayer can't encode anymore - it starts ripping the first wav file, and as soon as encoding should start - it come up with the errormessage: "The system cannot find the file specified"

After deleting the visualisation everything works perfect again. Maybe that helps reproducing the issue.

I am going to test this again later (wife kicked me off to watch a ripped movie), but I found an issue withripping a CD. when the cd starts to rip (unsure at what point, though) it crashes media portal.

What information do I need to post to help you out with this issue? Let me know and I will post what ever you need. I have ripped this CD with windows media player and that works. There are no autorun programs or installs on the cd. Just a basic music CD. Also, I have not installed any other visualizations yet, so that can't be it.

    thanks

If you encounter any kind of problem, please post logs with debug flag on.

Debug flag can be set from MP configuration and needed files are error.log and mediaportal.log.
