Why waste a third of the screen for an obscure strip of a larger fanart pic? That space would be better served with larger episode list, description, season pic, episode pic, and/or info panel.

And about widebanner, since the different TVSeries XMLs and preview pics of previous Monochrome versions are now gone, the installation instructions should at least document how to change it the layout--the posts about editing TVSeries.SkinSettings.xml are easily lost in these 120+ pages of the Monochrome thread.

I totally disagree, you do realise that the obscure strip is actually just a default background for series that contain no fanart.

You can get fanart by invoking the menu and selection Fanart, then you can download some for your series. There is also an option to disable fanart in series view available in the Options menu which preferably you want to enable.

Sure, its a bit hard and a pain to change layouts and get Fanart but that is not a skin issue. Its planned to be resolved in the plugin.

despite of all the complaints about the new TvSeries layout, i must say i love the new design
altough the new background image (i don't like fanart in the series screen) is a bit confusing (too much colors etc), but thats easy to replace
but for the rest, i think it's more classy than the previous layout

I AM talking about FANART when I say "obscure strip". The example pics of fanart you provide are nicely cropped in the strip, but most of the fanart for my series don't crop so nicely. People's heads are lopped off, some vital piece of the pic is in the lower half, etc., and all that's left is an obscure strip of a larger fanart image. And for series that don't have any fanart (I have several), the strip is wasted black space! As for the default background, I'm with divinius on that one--it's way too busy for Monochrome and adds nothing to TVSeries. But I can't agree with divinius that obscure strips or empty space is "classy".

Besides, let's not forget that we already have widebanners, covers, and episode pics for each series. These FULL images are a better indicator of the series and better use of the space than either obscure strips of fanart or empty black space.

I'm sorry guys. I just think it's wasted space, and if that's the future for Monochrome, I'm going to have to find another skin. Unfortunately, none of them will live up to the high standards that Monochrome has otherwise created for me. ;)

I also has to say that I like the new TV Series layout, on the other hand, it breaks the easiness of Monochrome..So can't really decide if i want the old one back or not.

Can someone give me an idea what file I can edit to change the way my vidoes filmstrip view looks. Specifically, I wanted to make the movie boxart used in the filmstrip bigger and change the reflections, etc.

    Thanks

You will need to edit the TVSeries.SkinSettings.xml located in the monochrome folder, there you can choose widebanners, posters, or filmstrip.

So some people have been unhappy with the way 2.5 uses only half the screen to display banners. Just edit TVSeries.xml in the monochrome folder.

Oh, I’ve been using media portal for about 5 days now so if I’m doing anything wrong just let me know. I know this information is about other places but..well..

1: First thing I did was remove the fan art letterbox (Made some banners hard to see)

*Control with the description “FanArt Overlay - Other Views”
*Just delete the pointer to the image from <texture>fanart_overlay_window.png</texture> so it is now <texture></texture>

2: Changed the rather bright default TV series background to my own darker one.

    *Look for “Default Background”
*Change <texture>fanart_background_tv.png</texture> to point to your own image (this will have to be placed inside Skins -> Monochrome -> Media ). e.g.<texture>my_new_Background.PNG<texture>

3: Move the panel that the banners are contained on to the top left (Watching out not to overlay logos)

*”graphical thumbpanel” control is near the bottom
*Change <posX> and <posY> until its in the right position (7,70 for 1360x768)

4: Increase the size of the banner panel

*Change <height> until it’s filling the space (700 for 1360x768).

5: The semi-transparent backgrounds to the series banners is done by editing tv_series_nofocus.PNG in the skins media folder

    All done

Again there is probably a much better way of doing this but it works.
