Check your MediaPortal configuration for file-extensions, and make sure MP4 is in the list.

it is in the list under the videos section. Is there somewhere else I should look?

    Nope, that is enough.

Switch to debug verbosity mode inside MediaPortal config otherwise and check your MovingPictures log file when you 'drop' an MP4 file into an active import path location.

The log file should show something like:

05-May-2012 21:09:21 Info [ MovieImporter]: Watcher queued EXAMPLE_FILENAME.MP4 for processing.
    05-May-2012 21:09:22 Debug [VideoFormatExtension]: Identifier: Path='\\EXAMPLE_SMB_SERVER\EXAMPLE_SHARE\EXAMPLE_FILENAME.MP4', Format='File', Hash='.....(hash).....'

After that MovingPictures will proceed with using a scraper-script, such as IMDb+ to match that movie filename with an actual movie entry at imdb.com (or the website your scraper-script uses). It can however be that user-input is required to approve the movie when multiple matches are found and no automatic choice can be made. Try to import a movie within MovingPictures config then, as you will then see the file 'appear' inside the import tab with all the matches to select from.

Other reasons for files not showing up, is that you have imported it before (you can use gear icon -> unignore all movies option then), or that the file was linked to an existing movie due to multi-part, this can also happen when you for example have the option enabled to always group movies that are in the same folder.

So check your settings and check your log.

If you fail to figure it out on your own, then attach your debug-verbosity movingpictures.log file to a follow-up post on this thread. Be sure to capture the actual problem within the log file. To do so, move the MP4 file from your import path to a temporary location (not scanned by MovPic), then start MediaPortal, wait like 30 seconds to allow any background task to finish (rescanning media for missing MediaInfo, or missing artwork, etc). Then what I normally do is delete all the log files and then move the MP4 file into the import folder. The first line in the newly created movingpictures.log file should then be that "Watcher queued" on the file in question.

Checked my settings. Set the log to debug then removed and re-added the location.

Log attached. I do not see anything about the files or folders of the mp4 files.

You were correct. They were m4v files that were not in the extension list. I added m4v to the list and now everything shows up.

I had file extensions hidden in windows so it showed it as mp4 video eventhough they are m4v files. That is an embarassing mistake. Thanks for your help.

Ahh the good old "virus.jpg.exe" method that fooled quite a few people into thinking it was just an innocent little picture with extensions hidden.

It's pretty much the first setting I adjust when I setup a new system.

    Glad you figured it out.

It could have very well have been that you encountered a new bug, so sometimes figuring out the cause can take some time :)

And I noticed in your log file you use the default imdb.com scraper-script, so I welcome you to have a look at IMDb+
