okay here are the logs. hope they contain the error. it must be in the logs, because i had mp running in debug, and the tvservice crashed after about 2 hours of running.
the service runs about one or two hours until it is crashing. but ONLY if it is idle and grabbing epg.
if im watching tv it runs for hours and hours.
the last lines in the tvserver logs are before it crashes, and i had my mp running nearly two hours longer!!!
first it seems that it was not possible for tve to connect to mssql server, but the server was running and i could connect to it using sql console or enterprise manager.
hope the logs would help to fix this annoying bug that is in the svn´s of the last 2 weeks.

any news on the crashing service? i installed yesterdays svn and the error is still there. a friend of mine has exactly the same issue on his installation.

Have you tried disabling DVB EPG grabbing all together in TVServer?
I'm suspecting EPG grabbing may cause issues locking the card...

I have disabled EPG grabbing for a long time now - and have never had any problems with wakeing up or recordings that fail.

And I record every day for my kids...

Your suspicion with grapping epg while idle seemed right.
I saw the following bugfix yesterday:
MediaPortal TvServer
08/02/2008 [13:45h] gemx added: Fixed the idle epg grabber crashing TvService

I guess that this will fix the issue. This also explains quite well why TVService was only crashing before recordings,
not while watching TV.

the crashing service problem is gone now. but after doing nothing for about an hour or listening music eg... i canßt restart tv. mp hangs then.
to reproduce the problem start mp and do nothing for about an hour. then try to start tv. mp hangs then.
i can´t provide any logs, because there is nothing written into the logs, because the whole computer hangs then.

I think i narrowed down the problem.
The bug seems to always happen after these lines in epg.log

2008-01-22 19:32:03.953125 [EPG Update thread]: dvb:cancel epg->stop graph
2008-01-22 19:32:03.953125 [EPG Update thread]: epg grabber:epg cancelled

The CPU time for TvService goes up to 99% directly after that and also the mem usage and somewhere during the next epg grab (probably when used memory goes crazy) it crashes.

Could somebody confirm this?

If so, i finally know where to look at

BTW: Should also be reproducable if you switch between the different tree nodes in SetupTV because the idle epg grabber is always reset when you click on another node

Is that why posibly, it can seem like a eternity before setup reacts\refreshes, always wondered the cause, because it was so intermitant.
