What about the database? last time I installed a new version I lost everything and had to start again. I suppose this is the case now also?

I did an uninstall of RC2 then installed RC3, TV Channels, EPG etc was still there, had to map the folders, choose remote, configure Daemon tools and a couple of other things, but for me it took less than 15 minutes to complete.. Very Happy with RC3 so far :)

Hi, my main concern would be losing my TV Recording Schedules (certain members of the family would be quite disappointed!). I take it this would also happen if you uninstall rc2?

I know I can just schedule them again but I've got quite a few and I'd rather not have to.

Has anyone had some success with just installing rc3 over the top? Or at least some way of backing up some the database stuff?

I uninstalled but did not remove everything (the uninstall asks if you want to remove the database and reg settings). As mentioned above I had to setup things in the media portal config again (things like location of music, photos etc.), however all of the TV server config (so channels schedules etc survived). To be safe you probably want to export your channels and schedules using the export command in the Tv Server config tool (it is on the channels page), that way if everything goes bad you at least have those settings safe...

You can export your channel info (which automatically includes all scheduled recordings), in the TV server configuration and import it in RC3.

Alternatively you can try this backup plugin

O Frabjous Joy! That seems to have done the trick. Thank you so much for your help and advice, CyberSimian. I hadn't thought of deleting the various folders, but I'll bear that in mind for any future disasters. Now I can record King & Conqueror on Sunday! Cheers Ralph

Actually, you just reminded me of how I have handled this in the past: I merged the contents of an old export.xml with a new one to make a complete file containing the old values I needed and the new values I didn't want to change. Why should it matter if the export file is missing some values? I would expect the import process to...
