That's the source of the problem.

2.1 pre reports as 2.1.1612.9370. Spring should be 2.0.1604.7790. We changed our numbering system for 2.1 and all snapshots on the way going forward and forgot the update check of the installer.

    Possible options:
    1. Upgrade the installer, well rather hack it, and if version is 2.16.04... upgrade anyway
    2. Provide a simple batch file that changes the version number in the registry before launching the 2.1pre installer.
I am not (yet) a WiX expert and therefore changing the logic, compiling and testing may not be the most efficient way at this moment. However, I could quickly put a batch file together that reads the version key, and if equal to the Spring '16 key, inserts the required "0".

Can you try this batch? Open admin command window, execute the batch. It should display the successful change of the version number in registry to 2.0.1604.7790

If it does, run the 2.1pre installer.

Ggrr, I'll end up installing Spring 16 here...

Please open regedit, highlight the "Computer" on top of the list at left and then search for MediaPortal. You should see something like:
    Registry.JPG

What GUID is displayed for (Standard)? My screenshot shows MP 2.1pre. You probably have a different GUID for Spring 16 and I ned to change the batch.

I previously attached a .zip file of all the log files from the old install... But here is the version from the (old) client log.

I didn't see a version notice in the server logs - at least the first several. They're full of actions.

I see you've found the root cause. Congrats on the detective work.
