Is it possible to use my Theatre 550 card to display a TV image without the visible MPEG2 compression artefacts in it? The Theatre 550 picture quality is pretty good, if it wasn't for the MPEG2 compression artefacts.

I'm using the NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder. Best codec I could find. The de-interlacing is set to optimum.

My question is this: Is it possible to either 1) bypass the encoding/decoding all together, or 2) increase the compression quality using a higher bit rate and other relevant encoding settings?

Anyone know? Or if you know of a different forum to ask this question, please let me know.

The ATi 550 based cards have selectable compression quality but I don't have one so I can't tell you much more. I think it's just a question of getting MediaPortal to set the hardware to use a higher quality setting and that would require developer info from ATi.

I remember reading in another thread that was the case. They needed developer information that ATI wouldnt hand out so the 'extra features' the card sported were only usable in ati's own application. You might want to browse the forums a little more and read up on it.

Thanks for your reply. In my configuration this setting is set to "no". To avoid misunderstandings, the MP window size changes on screen resolution changes, MP always fulfills the whole screen. Also, the home screen buttons size is adjusted. Only the font size is not adjusted to the new screen resolution.

That fixed the problem. I just manually installed VC_redist.x64.exe and reinstalled 1.32 64-bit. Thanks for that. A couple of things; the deployment tool for 1.32 doesn't remove the previous version when you're updating from 1.31 to 1.32 and "MediaPortal TV Server" gets installed even when you choose to install the client only. I...

That was it! :) I had to set it to "Maintain display scaling". I think it was set to "Maintain Aspect Ratio", which added black bars to MediaPortal when playing videos that didn't conform to a strict 16:9 ratio, I suppose. Thanks to everyone for the patience and help, I can finally enjoy videos fully.
