I'm not having much luck getting My Films working

When I run the Setup Wizard it all seems to go fine, but after clicking Save and unticking "Display Always Configuration Menu", the fields get emptied! It still shows the name I selected "My Films" in the Configuration Name box. After Quitting the config and re-opening it, even that box is empty and clicking the dropdown there is nothing to choose from

sorry to hear you have problems.
Can you post logs and config, so I have a look at it.
MyFilms config file is in mediaportal data directory, called "MyFilms.xml"
If you're new user, you might just want to delete it and open MyFilms setup - it will then create a new one and start "from scratch".
Are you running with limited user rights (UAC)?

Sorry to have to say that I'm giving up on getting this to work stable.
I have tried everything i can think of. I started out with MovingPicturesXML, that did not work to start with (thx Guzzi for the prerelase). I then tried setting up Ant, and it looked good to start with. However, when doing the first import, it says it finds 331 movies (that's the correct number), but when it starts the import it says it's importing 327 movies, and when the import is complete there is only 323 movies in my collection (something about invalid character in movie name). So i figured i can live that and really try this plugin out. I copy the MyFilms.xml to my HTPC's and go sit down to watch a movie. Starting MP and entering MyFilms only to see a message saying "No films found". I check my XML database file, and there are all the 323 movies as they should be, i open it in Ant and still no problem, but can't any movies to show up in the plugin in MP. I have reinstalled everything and tried again. I got it to work for while, but after rebooting my HTPC, the message about "No films found" is back again. I open up the config and click save, and it says there is 323 movies in my databse and that 323 movies should show up in MP, but it does not, only that freaking message.

I do wanna use this nice plugin since i have 3 HTPC's running, and it's nice to have a central database for movies. But at the current state it's just not useful for me.

I am running the main MyFilms manage box as an virtual machine (singel machine just for this to maintain the databse while HTPC's are turned off) in vmware esxi 5.0, but that should not make any difference as i see it.

I never used esxi, but I would say that should be fine.
However, I am not fully clear about the configuration you're trying to run.
If you post the logfiles, the config of your htpc (myfilms.xml) and the xml catalog, I can have a look at it.

I never used esxi, but I would say that should be fine.
However, I am not fully clear about the configuration you're trying to run.

I unfortunately cannot check the impopt log files, as they probably are located on your other (VM?) machine. I would need AMCupdater log file to see, what files did not import properly and why.

So i figured i can live that and really try this plugin out. I copy the MyFilms.xml to my HTPC's and go sit down to watch a movie. Starting MP and entering MyFilms only to see a message saying "No films found".

This is due to the fact you activated the "show only available movies" on Views/Filter tab as start default - it starts movie scanning in the background and once it's finished, the available movies show up. However, I agree it is annoying to start with "empty list - so I changed that behaviour - in the future all movies will be shown until the svailability scanner has done it's job - after that, the global filter will be set.
If you disable the "show available movies on start" you will get your movie list also with current release.

I check my XML database file, and there are all the 323 movies as they should be, i open it in Ant and still no problem, but can't any movies to show up in the plugin in MP. That is the same reason - after restarting the PC, it will again have that behaviour, until background scan is finished.

Edit:
While doing the change and some more testing, I realized, that you did not select to "scan media on start" on General tab - this was the reason, your movies never displayed, as there was no availability scanning ever done, unless you manually launched it in global menu in GUI.
I have also added a warning, so if the global folter is selected, a hint will pop up about that.
Regardless of that, we do now display the movielist until the scan was done.

MP crash (same like technick reported earlier)

MP 1.2.1 crashes, if MyFilms (V5.1.0.1468) was selected in MP and then the XML-file is changed. technick described that problem earlier but unfortunately did not come back with more details.
Good case:
Start MP, use anything except MyFilms, press the save button in AMC->Result: OK
Bad case:
Start MP, enter MyFilms (stay there or leave it(!!)), press the save button in AMC-> Result: MP crashes (two MP Installations on different PCs simultanously).
AMC (still 3.5.1, for maintainig the XML) is accessing the XML file via network share, I don't know if that changes if all is on the same box.
Additional Note:
with MP 1.1 and MyFilms 4.9 the problem did not occur

I copied MyFilms.dll/.pdb into the plugin folder and NLog.dll into the MP main folder.
Grabber.dll and TaskScheduler.dll did not exist, but i copied them into the MP main folder.
The test result is the same as before but now more logs.
The problem seems to occur because the file is locked when updated (inaccessible). Attached the logs (error/MyFilms)
Have seen some other log entries and will check my file but first wanted to let you know the result.
btw. both machines run WIN7 64 (1xHome, 1xProfessional)

so the messages about 'index damage' seem to be caused by 'inaccessible file issue'
