I always like music to be playing if im not watching a movie. Is it possible to have MP start at a random playlist or last played song at startup? Thank you for your efforts.

Here's an interesting thread on data structures which applies to MP as well - I have a 40,000 song library (on a A64 3200+ with 1 GB dual channel RAM), and MediaPortal's music database is unworkably slow. I have to resort to browsing by filename which is not very fast either for large numbers of files and folders. Foobar, WMP11 and, to a lesser extent, Winamp and iTunes show that a library of this size can work fast, but it's taken them years - maybe some of the hard lessons learned there can be used by the MP team to catch up?

On a more fundamentel level, maybe MP should consider using WMP's library as back-end database instead of the MP sql database. This alone will probably not speed things up (database itself has little effect on the speed, it's the structuring of the queries that does), but at least would relieve the developers of some of the tedious and complex database issues like maintaining integrity, etc.

interesting you brought this up. I have a 2tb or so music library, and it is also unusable with MP, it brings my entire system to a halt.

If i break it down by drives (network shares) , 500 gigs of music seems to be the limit.

jw - Do you have a count as to how many tracks this 2Tb of music results in?

is anyone else still having problems with fullscreen vis , or is it just me? That for some reason if my resolution is higher than 800x600 and i go fullscreen vis when listening to music or radio for that matter i get 100% cpu usage and can't exit fullscreen. Anyone else with this problem, you wouldn't think a vis at fullscreen would use up more cpu usage than say a hd tv at fullscreen which is what happens.
    Any one else?
