does it have to be MySQL5 ? or will it also work with MySQL4?

I didn't test it with MySQL 4. But when your databaseserver is running on windows, it is quite easy to run both: MySQL 4 and 5. You just have to edit some specs in the my.ini and set the standartport from one of them to a diffrent than 3306 :)

I have no tested tvengine on mysql 4 but i think that can works.
Threre are no specific mysql 5 sql syntax in "mysqldatabase.sql".

You can try to create manually the database with mediaportal sql script.

Try and tell if works.:)

i tried to connect but it failed.. even though root user/pass was correct.

don't know if the tvsetup.exe created a database itself for mysql... or if you had to manually create one first.

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. The reason I was thinking I needed more RAM is that TV now seems to be HiDef and so the files have grown. I edit the files before storing them, to reduce some size. It is finding that slower, I think. Or it could just be because I'm expecting more? The Baseboard manufacturer says ASUSTech Computer Inc; Baseboard product P7P55D-E...

If you use a VPN connection to your home network, you should be able to use the MP client to connect to your server natively instead of using MPExtended.
