Another thing i was speculating about - if i get cable tv (digital & analog) will I be able to view subtitles on the digital signal (my tv card is supposed to support it)? Is it the same encoding/format as DVB-T for subtitles or is it completely different?

Digital cable TV is usually DVB-C (for example TDC Cable TV), and use the same subtitle standard as DVB-T and DVB-S.
However 'broadband' style cable TV (ie TV channels delivered over the internet) is completely different.

No specific support is required from the DVB card to support subtitles. The card just delivers the transport stream which contains the subtitles along with all the rest of the data.

Just a small update. While i have the code working on my dev. machine there are still some issues regarding timing and seeking (since those are no longer handled through the dvbsub filter) that needs to be dealt with. However i wont have time to deal with this until the weekend.

qestion, is this function still in rc3?

Onle the DVB teletext subtitle support has been disabled and the bitmap based subtitle support is availabe if you follow the steps that are presented in the first post in this same thread.

After such a nice post I decided to provide a patched TsReader.ax (based on 16264 SVN version) so that you can upgrade to the RC3. Please be aware that there might be other changes soon in the TsReader / tve3 client that might broke the patched binary. Also plase notice that I didn't have time to test the patched .ax file.

    1) install RC3
    2) update tve3 and MP to latest SVN (as close as possible to the 16264)
    3) copy TsReader16264_ttxt.ax over the TsReade in MP folder
    4) hope that all works :)

I added some test clip (YLE 1 - 2-3 sub pids.ts) recorded with TVEngine3 from YLE TV1. At very beginning there is only one subpicture- & one teletext stream, but soon there is also second subpicture stream (pid).

-first sub pid (0x403) is normal finnish sub for english speaking translation (or I think so) -> Those "pictures" are missing..?
-second sub pid (0x404) (marked as dut?) is finnish sub for hearing-impaired including also finnish narrator speaking -> That works great!
-third sub pid (0x911) is teletext finnish sub -> That works, but subs timing is little too early.

This is not complaining or any kind of bug report (I know support for multiple pids and teletext subs are under development).. just sending information and test clip for you.

Keep up the good work :)

    Australia?

Hi, this thread is such a monster, but looking through it I don't think my question has alreday been answered.

Does anyone know if the method described here is suposed to work for the type of DVB-T subtitles we have here in Australia?

I guess my question is, does anyone know the type of subtitles we have here? And is that what you are talking about in this thread?

    Cheers

However i wont have time to deal with this until the weekend.

Unfortunately i had to spend my spare time this weekend repairing my dads HTPC, so no teletext subs this week. Sorry. As soon as i can find the time, i will get the final changes done.
