. 'Transport Stream files' is that non-compressed files taking up a lot of space?
No, its the exact same video and audio as in the DVR-MS. In fact its the same data the broadcaster sends, its not re-encoded in away etc. There might be a little bit of storage overhead due to the extra data stored with the audio and video however.
Also when will MP be recording this information along with the DVR-MS file - is it the DVR-MS format that can't contain subtitles - in that case would it be possible to create some kind of .srt, .sub etc. file with the same name as the DVR-MS file? Let MP be able to show data from these files per default and this experimental? filter would be an addon to create the subtitles files? That way everyone could bennefit - i'm afraid to try and download some nightly build of the tv-server setup to keep up with these changes.
I dont think DVR-MS files can contain subtitle streams, additionally i am not sure the SBE that creates DVR-MS files supporst recording the necessary information. Recording Transport Streams is much better as it allows you to store and work with the original broadcasted material (ie for example recording a whole transponder with just one tuner). There are no plans to create anything like what you describe. When the TV server is finished everybody will have the benefit of this. Adding subtitle generation to the old recording engine would be a lot of work, and would have a much bigger potential for bugs than what we are working on here. It makes little sense to keep working on two different recording engines.
