newbie - missing webEPG? (2 Viewers)

Hi.

Normal behavior for the EPG, should it go directly to watching TV when I select a show, or is it normal to have to select Watch Now?

This is the normal and wanted behaviour. MP2 can not know what you want to do. For me, it's pretty normal to record anything before watching. I really hate the advertising and with recording anything I easily can skip the ads... Watching TV really "Live" is an extreme seldom use case here... And I'm not the only one, so it's nice to be asked. Same is if you press OK on any future program. Then also a requester appears asking if you want to schedule a one time recording or a recurring one..

SchedulesDirect and it's plugin. Do you think that will give a better EPG?

As far as I know it has much better data especially for the US... Similar here in Germany. The average EPG data are mainly the name of the show and the time, that's it. If you want more, you need to add extra work and/or money. That's why much German people are using "Clickfinder". You can think of this as the "German SchedulesDirect". The other way to get rich EPG data is Webgrab++. This is free, but needs a lot of work to get it up and running. I was going the "hard way" with Webgrab++. It needs some time to download the EPG data, up to some hours daily (depending on how much my Internet connection is used while the grabbing runs). It can last some days to get it running the first time, if you are new to this kind of stuff. You need to fiddle with XML files, write batch scripts and similar. But when you have it up and running, it delivers high-end EPG data for free..

This is the normal and wanted behaviour. MP2 can not know what you want to do.

It sounds like this behaviour is what you want, but not everybody has the same expectations as you. FWIW this behaviour is not consistent with MP1/TVE3 or any other PVR software that I'm aware of. So, I'm not surprised that grepper was confused. If it were me, I also would have expected live TV to start...

TVE has nothing to do with, it's a client only thing.
MP1 did the same, I'm pretty sure... But it's a long time since I last used MP1 so maybe this has changed in some later versions. In XBMC and Kodi (haven't tried Kodi 15 but up to Kodi 14 this was the case) you also get such a requester when you're in EPG. Can't remember how this was in WMC as this is about 8 years since I last used it for watching TV...

I must disagree with this. In my view this behaviour of MP2 is one of the nails in the coffin that will cause many MP1 users to decide not to migrate to MP2.

If MP2 wishes to retain this behaviour, it needs to be made a configuration option.

What is the final (most recent) version of MP1? A link to download it?

This is really not clear from the website. I went to the change log for MP1 to try to find out, but that looks like stuff being worked on for MP2.

the most recent MP1 is v1.12, just click on download at the top of the forum webpage. I'm using MP1 v1.12 but I may try MP2 sometime over the weekend to give it a try.

I got one channel info (the only one I configured in the grabber) to get it's info from IMDB, but trying to watch tv didn't work.

Scrolling around in the guide, it would suddenly quit and WMC would launch??? This happened many times and is repeatable on my system. Odd.

No time column headings in the guide as you can see from my previous attachments.

Documentation has not caught up the MP2 release (at least from a newbie's perspective).

The guide is the center of my TV UI, and I have to have something that works well or it's a show stopper. Freeze frame, FW, BK, etc., (DVR functionality), instant and scheduled recordings a must too. I don't care about streaming, movies, pictures, radio or anything else. I can do that lots of ways. Just good, solid TV functionality. WMC worked fine for what I needed, but now the broken ROVI EPG with only partial channel information has ruined it. Hence I'm trying MP!

Because of my own experience, and recommendations from MP's developers and testers, I'm going to try MP1 and see how that goes. I'll try both SchedulesDirect and IMDB for the EPG and see if it works better than MP2.

It would be cool if you could respond in this thread with your own experiences with MP2! I'd be very interested!

If you are using a WMC remote control, it has the "green button" that can be used to start WMC from the Windows desktop. However, several other buttons on the remote control can also start WMC if it is not already running. So, if you press one of those buttons while in MP2, you might cause WMC to start.

Now, MP1 has a facility whereby you can disable the WMC services so that WMC no longer runs. This allows MP1 to use the "green button" to start MP1 instead of WMC, and those other buttons won't start WMC either.

Does MP2 have this facility? I don't know. Perhaps one of the MP2 experts can comment?

No, MP2 doesn't have an option to disable other programs.

If you like to avoid MCE from starting, you can end the MCE related services/processes (eh*...)

Just a quick follow up: can MP2 be started from the desktop using the "green button" on a remote control? It is "MPTray" that does this (I think); can that start MP2 instead of MP1? Thanks.
