Re: OnlineVideos 0.19 (29.03.2010)

Is there any possibilty to make a program like ultrasurf to work with Mediaportal? When running ultrasurf I can without problems watch streamed tv with firefox but not through onlinevideos.

Is there any way to "cheat" and watch programs that is protected by region?

The only way to "cheat" as far as I'm aware is to use a proxy in the region of the online stream that you want to watch.
You could do this with a bit of code to automatically switch the proxy according to which online stream you want to watch.

However, I'm not sure of the legal implications to this. For example, in the UK, we pay a BBC licence fee which allows us to watch iPlayer for free. However, anyone outside of the UK does not pay that licence fee so isn't entitled to watch what they haven't paid for.

So, my suspicion is that unless you write the proxy switching code yourself, it's unlikey that anyone here will...

Sure, but I presume you should ask for alternative somewhere else than inside a OnlineVideo-tread in a OnlineVideo-forum.
    I think I have seen a Firefox-plugins somewhere. . . . .
(Anyway, the main benefit of this great plugin is to get direct access to videostream without jumping between different URL's)

Proxy /vpn against a server localized in the region where the video-stream is allowed. A solution would be to get a VPS/rootserver in the actual region. But I presume such workaround may be illegal.

Going back to the discussion about UAC:
I recoded the AutoUpdate that it will show the UAC prompt now, when MePo is not running as Admin (on Vista or Win7).

    Nice, will test it asap.

    Re: OnlineVideos 0.19 (29.03.2010)

Doing further testing on the subject (on vista):
It IS possible to write to a subfolder of %ProgramFiles% with UAC enabled, without getting the UAC prompt or access denied exception by giving the folder full access rights for the current user!

I'll test this on Win7 as well and if it works there, I'll try to modify the MPEI installer, to give those rigths to the satellite dll folder on install.

The final approach is going to be:

    1. MPEI installer sets rights to the folder.
    2. On AutoUpdate, try to write to the folder. If possible, do so right away -> no UAC prompt or error.
    3. If an error is thrown when writing the dll (should only happen if someone did not use the installer or changed rights on the folder or is logged in as different user) do the UAC prompt to copy dlls from temp folder to correct folder.

This should work in all cases while keeping usability on HTPC at a maximum. (no UAC prompt).

I can only add the missing Dispose method once RC2 is released.

Ultrasurf creates a local proxy (listening on 127.0.0.1 the loopback interface). I do not know how to tell the Online Videos plugin about a proxy, but just provide the same infos as your browser uses when you use ultrasurf should work.
