I don't know what protocol Samsung is using, but I'll keep digging and see if I can find out.

I did try to learn the codes with MCEir but that never worked. At that time I tried to find Pronto codes but had no luck. Just now I found a recent post with the pronto codes:

    http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-discrete/thread.cgi?keywords=3544&highlight=LE32R41

I will try to import the 'on' and 'off' into HIP to see if I can get them to work.

I will have the problem that only blaster two is working and in use for the amplifier. You think this has anything to do with the BZR code? My work around will be to connect both bugs to the blaster 2 port, the amp should ignore codes for the TV and visa versa.

Below are the pronto codes for Samsung I will be testing (don't know if this helps you any to identify the protocol).

I'm specifically interested in having it deal with additional RC codes. MCEir does not recognize the RC codes for my Samsung LCD TV. It would be so nice to be able to switch this on and off just like my amplifier.

    VdR

VdR - what problems are you finding with the Samsung? Is it a question of MCEir not sending anything, or a question of the Samsung "ignoring" the transmitted IR.

I have a similar TV myself (the 26" version, but Samsung use a very limited number of codes across all their ranges), and I find integrating discrete codes from remotecentral via MCEir.sys absolutely fine, both for switching on and off. I didn't use the learning function for this, as the on/off button on the remote is a toggle signal, not a discrete code.

In similar vein, I couldn't get the Samsung code for "PC input" to work in a consistent way without a bit of "potching" - I turn the TV on, then wait 7 seconds, then change the input, which satisfies requirements for now (and keeps my wife happy that she can remember which button to press!).

    Hope this is useful

@Smirnuff - well they're my local rugby team as well, so you're REALLY not far away!

When I try to change channels on my stb the blaster is not flashing, but pressing "test" in plug-in config works.

    My log shows this:

2006-11-07 16:17:51.109375 [ERROR][MPMain]: Exception: System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array.
    at MediaPortal.Plugins.MCEReplacement.ProcessExternalChannel(String externalChannel, String tunerCard)

    at MediaPortal.GUI.Library.SendMessageHandler.Invoke(GUIMessage message)
    at MediaPortal.GUI.Library.GUIWindowManager.SendMessage(GUIMessage message)

    Running the latest SVN.

    Any ideas?

    Regards

    Donald,

That's mighty interesting, you say you have MCEir working with a Samsung TV! That means it is possible without changing the MCEir code. I can't wait to have another go at this.

Problem I had was that MCEir (learning) didn't recognize the IR signal send from the Samsung remote. I have not tried using the discrete codes from remote central, at the time I was setting all this up there where non published, I only found them today.

I'll post the results of my fiddling.

BTW; Do you have both blasters working with MCEir?

    VdR

    PS
What do you need 'PC input' for? Do you allow your wife to use anything else but the MP box? ;) My TV remembers the selection 'PC input', I haven't touched that in a year (I don't even know where the remote is ...)

Yes, I do have both blasters working - one blasts the Samsung, the other blasts my Sky STB (which is in a completely different room with the IR signal being carried over cat5, and the SCART RGB signal in the other direction over cat5, using some very obscure but faintly magical kit called Kat5 - http://www.kat5.tv/index1.html ). Having said that, because I haven't stipulated that the Samsung codes should go over a particular blaster, they are carried through both anyway, with no detrimental effect.

My TV doesn't remember the 'PC input' because the Sky STB signal carries the widescreen and SCART focus switching commands, and therefore "grabs" the attention of the TV. Some day I might turn the focus switching off, I just haven't bothered up to now.

    Hope this helps

    Sorry to interrupt...

    Hi,

I just have a couple of questions relating to the plugin but don't fit into the samsung conversation going at the moment so I'll be quick...

    1. I'm getting quick repetitions of commands when I press remote control buttons. I've adjusted the repeat delay with no luck and the old mce remote driver was ok.
    2. I've set up the red button to load itunes. Is there a way/condition I can set that will close it when I press the red button again? I also thought about setting the green button to close it but didn't have a great deal of luck.

Many thanks for a great plugin,

    Richard

    Donald,

I have been trying this but I got stuck.

I can import IR codes for my amplifier from CCF files and use these without a problem (with HIP and MCE IR). But I can't import IR codes for the Samsung TV from CCF files. I get the message 'The IR format is not supported by the MCE IR DLL'. :( This would explain why I can't learn them directly from the remote either.

This is why I was thinking that MCE IR should be changed to support whatever protocol Samsung is using.

Do you have IR codes for the Samsung TV that work with MCE IR? If so, can you post these please?

I'm looking into it now, Mattias. As soon as I find something I will let you know.
When you configure your set top box, do you have more than one TV Card tab?
It could be that you have set it up for the wrong TV card. Let me know if you figure it out, and in the meantime I'll look into it here. It sounds like I need to put better error handling over that code anyway ...

I will have the problem that only blaster two is working and in use for the amplifier. You think this has anything to do with the BZR code? My work around will be to connect both bugs to the blaster 2 port, the amp should ignore codes for the TV and visa versa.

The blaster two only thing is common, and it happens with both "MyBlaster" and my plugin. It only seems to happen for some kinds of MCE transciever. Let's call it a known issue for now. I don't know how I could fix it, especially when I can't reproduce it. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

I would be very interested to hear how you get on connecting two bugs to the one port. That would be a great solution for others with this problem, if it works.

Let us know how you get on.

    1. I'm getting quick repetitions of commands when I press remote control buttons. I've adjusted the repeat delay with no luck and the old mce remote driver was ok.

Sounds like you have one of two things happening.

Either you've still got MediaPortals built in MCE remote support turned on.
If so, Turn it off in "MediaPortal Setup" -> "Remote" -> Uncheck "Use Microsoft MCE remote or keyboard".

Or You are using the original Microsoft driver and you have not removed the replacement driver button mappings. If you are using the original Microsoft driver then load MediaPortal Setup and go to configure my MCE Replacement Plugin. From there click "Map MCE Buttons", and then click "Remove replacement driver mappings".

    2. I've set up the red button to load itunes. Is there a way/condition I can set that will close it when I press the red button again? I also thought about setting the green button to close it but didn't have a great deal of luck.

My plugin can only control MediaPortal. So as soon as you load an external app you loose remote control ability. If you want to control more than just MediaPortal with your remote then you should look at installing HIP or Girder. I recommend HIP, it's free and really good. http://www.byremote.com.au/HIP/

Using HIP (or girder) you can set the plugin to Message Mode and get all the benefits of integrated remote support. Then, when mediaportal launches another app HIP (or girder) can take over and control that app for you.

    Cheers,
