Update, no good news:

- Rolling back Dvico drivers to 3.0RC1 FAILED (I'm back on 3.01.00)
- Replacing quartz.dll with the version from DX9.0b (saw this mentioned on a lot of sites, and it is an issue reconginsed by MS with KB article 885354)) FAILED
- Using Reclock NOT TESTED
- Connect via VGA FAILED (Although, this gave me options to use refresh of 75Hz, but this didn't help either....Back to DVI)
- 77.77 Video drivers FAILED (But I'll keep them...)

After I try reclock, not sure what's left :(

Mmmm - it is really weird that you only get this tearing with live TV - I guess the solution is to watch live TV with Timeshift always on?

When you use the ! test, do you notice any difference in any of the parameters (refresh rate, jitter, sync...) between live TV and timeshifted TV?

No...Using the mpeg2dec, I get sync=1, drop frame =0, jitter=a low number (depends what I have been doing before hand - not sure when the stats reset themselves, but the jitter factor is usually single digit, and changes to a lower number over time).

I haven't tried TV playback through FusionHDTV, but not sure whether it uses VMR9 or Overlay, and if it uses VMR9, how to emulate the ! test (actually, this might be possible with ReClock after reading the docco, it includes a "tearing Test" similar to ! in MP - must be a standard DX9 function or similar...)

    Another update....

Tried using FusionHDTV application, and found I could set it in config to use VMR rendering (by default it uses overlay). I must admit, I never tried overlay with MP, but there is a noticable quality difference, with Overlay looking much better than VMR. I only observed this using the Fusion app, I didn't have time to try overlay in MP. I am also a little envious of the stability and smoothness of the Fusion app in terms of displaying all of the local SD & HD channels. Channel changing is smooth and relatively quick, which I don't (yet!) experience in MP. Once MP provides the same quality for LiveTV, I will definitely get a 2nd tuner and stop using the Dell TV analog inputs to watch liveTV.

As for the tearing, it wasn't noticable in the Fusion app in either Overlay or VMR modes, but I don't know enough about the FusionApp to be sure that I set it up correctly for VMR.

So, I went back to MP and played with the config setting for "Fullscreen exclusive DirectX mode".
If I de-select this option, I then get tearing in ALL forms of video plaback - LiveTV, TimeshiftedTV, RecordedTV, Video files (have not tested DVDs yet). If I re-select the option, I only get tearing in LiveTV - all other forms are fine.
I tried to determine whether the tearing was evident only in Fullscreen TV, but it was hard to tell when the TV was being displayed on the My TV Home page whether there was tearing (the ! test indicates yes, but the white vertical bar also tears if I am just on the MP Home screen with no videos playing at all - strange...)
The tearing is the same severity in all cases - the video is still watchable, but there will be a noticable diagonal "tear" in the picture, that kind of "flashes" every now and then, and looks to be confined to the top third of the picture (although the white vertical bar indicates tearing such that the bar looks like it's split into 5 equal lengths...).

Is there any chance that FS Exclusive DX9 mode has a problem with LiveTV???

    Tearing live-tv

I put up the screen refrech rate to 75 hz ( for PAL system ) . Not perfect yet! But a big improvment.. Changed the audio filter to AC3.. Now it´s allmost perfect!! Some tearing if I go from EPG to TV! But it´s no tearing if I go from tv meny!
Memory leak in the EPG to TV???

    laeb66,
Is this using the latest CVS? Did you only experience the tearing in LiveTV (RecordedTV,TimeshifetdTV ok?)

I had tried 75Hz briefly while I was connected using VGA cable, but 75Hz is not an option when I connect via DVI (I don't want to use powerstrip). However, I would have though 50Hz would be perfect....

OK, so here are some questions maybe someone can answer:

When a TV show is recorded, or when timeshifting buffer is used, is the data stored already "de-interlaced", or is it still in the broadcast "interlaced" format?

Since slayer, laeb66 and I seem to get the tearing issue only in Live TV, I'm wondering whether it's confined to a de-interlacing issue? If playing back recorded files or timeshifted TV no longer required any de-interlacing, and we get smooth playback of these files, then I can start to narrow down the various de-interlacing options.

To the Devs, is the TV Codec we specify in MP setup used only for Live TV or for Live, recorded and timeshifted TV? If recorded TV is setup to be included in the My Movies database, when we playback recorded TV through My Movies, is the Movies codec used?

Finally (for now), what is the impact of setting MP's Television "de-interlacing" option. For example, let's say I use the nVidia Purevideo Codec for TV. This codec has de-interlacing options (set via the taskbar app that appears when playing back live TV, or via dMan's Nvidia Decoder registry entries in Tips & Tricks forum). But, in MP TV setup, there is also a de-interlacing option (None, Bob, Weave, Best). I don't need an explanation of the de-interlace options per se, but do I need to set an option in both the Purevideo decoder and also in MP setup? Why do we have de-interlace options in MP setup if they are driven by the codec? I'm just curious, so if I can avoid testing every Nvidia de-interlace setting in combination with every MP de-interlace settings, I will!

Knowing the answer to these questions will help my testing (and assist me with developing a personal "Test Plan" )

    Live TV

Did some test yesterday. And find out that the tearing coms only in HI-Contrast areas.. ex.. ´White close to black, Red close to green...etc etc..

Some where in in the chain from the DVB stream to picture on the TV is the encoding translation wrong..

Don´t think this problem have anything to do with interlacedmode or non-interlced.. It+´s the same problem in all mode!!
Just a Bug in the code for Live TV!!!
