Thanks. You do seem to have fixed that problem, but now I got it stuck underneath there, so I can only go between the Back arrow on the left and the Power button on the right.

If I press H it takes me back to the new Home menu, but when I press it again to go back to this one, the cursor is still stuck in the same place.

Please ignore the errors about MyFilms and HTPCInfo. I just haven't configured them yet and have disabled them for now until I do.

I've run into a few other issues I'm afraid.

There seems to be an issue with the on-screen volume bar, as I can't get it to go past the yellow area, as shown in the attached picture.

I'm avoiding the problems with the Classic Home screen now by setting Basic only in MP config. I'll probably delete the Root Menu item as well, as I don't need/want to go there. I'll probably move the few things I use (ScoreCenter, RSS, maybe BrowseTheWeb) from the Internet tab to the Weather tab (would be good if this could be named News and Weather), so it would be nice if I could delete the Internet tab completely. RSS doesn't link to anything for me, unlike the RSS button at the bottom left which opens my InfoService feed. The 5-day weather displayed properly at the bottom of the Root Menu, but doesn't work on the Basic Menu.

I also can't seem to find any Close/Standby/Hibernate/Shutdown shortcuts on the Basic Home screen. Where are they hiding?

No idea - here it works up to full volume - maybe some wrong settings?

All that can be done with the BasicHomeEditor ;)

You have to enable the MP built-in RSS feed. Again, delete this entry with the BasicHomeEditor.

Download and install (copy/overwrite) the specific xmls for World Weather.

    They are in the topbar.

I'm not sure what can be set wrong. I'm running Win7 and it doesn't allow me to chose a volume method in MP config.

I didn't see any way to rename or delete top-level tabs, but I'll have another look :)

OK, I can delete it but I'd rather it opened the InfoService page ;)

Download and install (copy/overwrite) the specific xmls for World Weather.

    OK, thanks.

    They are in the topbar.

But I have that disabled (as I always have done) as I only use a remote and it doesn't really fit with remote use, so it would be nicer if they were available from the menu. In the same vein, I'd rather if the OSD that appears when pausing or pressing info whilst playing media was more simple and didn't have all the buttons on it (like the StreamedMP one), as it's easier to use the remote to pause/ffwd, enable subtitles, change audio language, etc. The StreamedMP OSD does have the subtitles, video menu and audio menu buttons and I can see that they could be useful for adjusting delays, etc (although I've never needed them) so perhaps something could be made like that?

Hi doveman, all the necessary controls for subtitles, audio and video ARE in the OSD.
And please let me remind you that this skin is designed as a barrier-free skin allowing users to act with remote, mouse and touchscreens.

And please let me remind you that this skin is designed as a barrier-free skin allowing users to act with remote, mouse and touchscreens.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I see those buttons are there, what I was asking was if it would be possible to have a more minimalistic OSD with ONLY those buttons (like StreamedMP).

I appreciate it's not easy to make a skin be all things to all men :) I love how everything is easy to find on the Home Screen, rather than having to scroll through a long list like StreamedMP, I just need it to be simple (I'm setting up this HTPC for my technically-challenged brother!) and the myriad of options in the topbar is rather confusing for someone who only needs the Power options, so it would be nice if these were available from the menu (which wouldn't stop others using the topbar if it suits their needs).

I've found another bug as well. If I go down into one of the menu items (e.g. TV Guide) and press right, the cursor gets lost and it's tricky to get it back again. Pressing right or down does nothing and pressing left or Up makes it jump to the Pictures menu, irrespective of which menu I was on when it got lost. I did test with Topbar enabled in case it was going up there, but it's not.

I can't really see any need to go left or right when on a menu item, so perhaps this can be fixed by preventing this happening.

EDIT: by the way, the volume bar seems to be OK now. I noticed the Main Volume in Realtek HD Audio Manager was set to 80, so I increased that to 100 and now it goes one bar over the red area, but that's OK as it can be thought of as overload/volume 11 ;)

Well, anything in PVHD skins has a reason, but let me explain it to you:
If you are playing a video, Live TV, Music etc. this is shown on Basic Home on the right side with all necessary infos.
If you now go into a menu, let´s say Videos, scroll down to Online Videos, and click right, you highlight the video window, press OK, and you are in fullscreen.
If you play something from your Music section, the relevant information are shown on the right side, too.
Clicking right from any menu item highlights the cover of the played music, clicking OK opens the Now Playing screen.
If nothing is shown on the right side, clicking right leads to nowhere, just click left and you are back in the category icon row of the menu (I don´t see nothing tricky there).
Same applies if you are in a menu and have highlighted e.g. Online Videos. Clicking left brings you back to the category icon bar of the menu, where you now can go left or right to choose another castegory, thus eliminating additional button clicks to go back up to the category icons.
And last but not least: If you don´t see any need to click left or right when on a menu item, so why do you click it then ;)

    Hi Catavolt,

concerning the Basic HomeEditor I have 2 questions/suggestions:

1.) If you delete an entry from the main menu or a sub-menu, it is also deleted from the list-box.

So there is no easy way to get it back again.
This happened to me e.g. when I first cleaned the menus from all plugins that I don't use and later wanted to insert a formerly deleted menu-item again.

You can of course start all over again with the default-layout but it would be easier if all default plugins remain in the drop-down list box even if you have deleted them from the menu.

2.) However there is a way to get a formerly deleted menu-item back with the "advanced settings".
When you edit an empty menu-item and go to the advanced settings, you can directly enter the label ID (=name of the plugin/menu-item), Window-ID and the hover-image.
The label-ID and Window-ID of the default menu-items can be looked up in the default layout again in the advanced settings.

So I asked myself if by this way I can get also the non-standard plugins (which are not in the drop-down list box) into the menu?
This would be quite nice because I have some plugins which I would like to have a more direct access to via the menu.
But where can I find the Window-ID of the non-standard plugins to try this out?

Perhaps it could be implemented that all individually installed plugins can be selected as a menu-item from the drop-down list-box.

    Kind regards

    Roger

And last but not least: If you don´t see any need to click left or right when on a menu item, so why do you click it then ;)

Let me deal with that first, as that's just crazy talk ;) It's very easy for users to accidentally press the wrong button when navigating menus and they shouldn't be left with a missing cursor (not really the right word but you know what I mean) because they accidentally pressed right. Imagine me trying to explain this to someone "OK, well if the cursor disappears you probably accidentally pressed right and you just have to press left or up, which will make the menu jump to Pictures regardless of where you were when the cursor disappeared".

Well it is tricky because a) the user might not have intentionally pressed right so won't automatically realise they need to press left (or up) and b) pressing left (or up) doesn't take them back to where they were, but jumps to Pictures.

I still don't see any need to go right to the video window/music cover. Remote users normally have a button assigned to switch between Fullscreen and GUI, whilst keyboard users can press X. I don't have any experience with touchscreen, but I assume such users just touch the area and don't need to navigate right as such, but even if they do I don't think that justifies making the interface so problematic for the remote/keyboard users (who I'm sure must be the majority).

Same applies if you are in a menu and have highlighted e.g. Online Videos. Clicking left brings you back to the category icon bar of the menu, where you now can go left or right to choose another castegory, thus eliminating additional button clicks to go back up to the category icons.

That's a reasonable design choice but it doesn't result in a missing cursor and the user can clearly see what's happened when they've pressed left from within a menu.
