if you can get ram to play in wmp, then yes we can to.
So basically I have two questions...

1 - Has anyone had any joy playing Real Media .ram files in WMP9?
2 -If so, how did you do it?

I just downloaded and installed the latest RealMedia Splitter
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/RealMedia_Splitter.htm
and Real Alternative
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm
and I tried to play this URL
http://www.vtuner.com/vtunerweb/ram/3819.ram
which played beautifully in WMP9.
I also tried the URL you were trying to play, and it looks like there is something wrong with it.
BTW, it also works with Real video.

that link also works for me in WMP (which is good - at least the realmedia codecs are ok.) the vtuner link is a http stream inside:
http://pubint.sc.llnwd.net:9080/
whereas the bbc one is rtsp:
rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/radio1/live/r1_dsat_g2.ra

mediaplayer classic can handle both fine, WMP can only handle the http one (though it may not be for that reason of course)

i guess that rtsp (or more likely, the Real implementation of it) is not understood by WMP and therefore it cannot load the stream properly to start with - though rtsp is an open format isn't it?

thanks for the help

I really love the radio plug-in feature and it works perfect for streams!

I am wondering whether it would be possible to connect the radio stations logo to the stream (or radio from the capture card), just like in the TV Guide? At present the name given in the plug-in is displayed at the bottom of the small window in the main menu, as well as in the MyRadio section.

The whirling in the small window when the radio is playing is nice, but I would prefer the station logo there.

Are there any plans to implement this?

From BBC I now get:
"The server received invalid data from the client on the control connection."

http://www.vtuner.com/vtunerweb/ram/3819.ram , asx and mms://-stations plays in wmp10,
but I don't get other ram (like http://www.sr.se/p3/diverse/appdata/flipper/sounds/flipper6a.ram ), nor shoutcast (!) running in WMP.

All runs in MPC.
I have sucessfully installed realalt, realsplitter and shoutcastsomething.ax.

Any more ideas?

I installed the latest version of the real alternative and can only get playback in MP classic. This post has not been touched since last year. Have there been any developments?

Is there any further information about this? I've checked for Radio documentation, but I can't find any.

I want to listen to BBC radio too, in addition to KCRW (http://www.kcrw.com/), amongst other stations.

I confess that I'm a noob at Internet Radio, but I want to play Real streams in Media Portal.

I've installed the latest version of Real Player, Windows Media Player 10 and the Gabest RealMedia Splitter.

I've managed to get non-Real radio working by adding internet stations (obtained from this post and others), in the Media Portal Radio configuration and by adding the URL separately, but I need to know where to obtain the urls from.

So two things really: I need to know how to get the station/file information (step-by-step if possible please!) and I need to know the technical requirements for getting Real streams working.
Many thanks.

I guess not many people are interested in radio...

;o)

I've tried all of the above advice and I still can't get .ram files to play in Windows Media Player.
Furthermore, the following page states that it's not possible to do so: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/mediaadvice/0071.mspx.

Also, when I installed Real Alternative, there were some notes about limitations, and I'm fairly sure it said the same thing.

Does anybody know of a way to play .ram files in Media Portal?

    just guessing:

when installing rp alternative, you don´t need to install rp
you might need windows media player classic, that is 6.x.x.

sorry, not very precise, it is a long time since i read sth about it.

I uninstalled Real Player before installing Real Alternative.

Files did play with Media Player Classic, but will Media Portal work with Media Player Classic?

Can you create playlists, etc. with it?

I'm really surprised nobody has written a codec to allow WMP to play .ram files, considering that they're two of the most common media players.

Hmmm...the Shoutcast plug-in allows me to listen to some of the stations I want, but not BBC.

I guess I'll have to do that via my DVB-T card (once I get an aerial connection sorted out).
