@jmbillings: the main difference is that unlocked saf contains an additional codec for live h264 tv, i don't believe any more detailed explanation than that will be given in the public forums.

    Ah, ok, I understand :)

I'll contact the author directly for more advice.

    Hi Hoborg:)

AC3filter is working great as long as AC3encoder is disabled and "patted ...." is not used. I recommend you to change that to "auto...." Otherwise not audio for me...

@S.O.P -> did u know that if you edit the merit value of directshow filters you have to relogin for changes to take effect.
I did, because somewhere in my travels I saw you type it elsewhere ;) A restart is a long relogin process though?

But anyway, I didn't change the merit (just thought it was relevant), it's just since I first used it to test it out, I can't stop using it now. Not that it's a bad thing, AC3Filter does exactly the same job as ffdshow for my 2 channel DAC setup, and once Auto Matrix is on, it sounds exactly the same too. I did use the Volume tab in ffdshow with Normalize(sic) on trying to balance the crazy variations in volume levels between sources, but not sure that was even working.

I'm thinking, without checking properly, that it's also happening with ffdshow video too. .mkv's won't play with the ffdshow icon when chosen in config. I'm assuming it's using the Cyberlink codec. .avi's of the xvid variety, with mp3 sound, use ffdshow. I don't really know the details of why, I keep tweaking MP to a minimum as it bothers my wife if anything changes.

@SOP - mkv is just a container, it can contain xvid, divx, h264 etc... there is no setting in MP to tell mkv to use ffdshow. SAF should just configure everything properly anyway if installed on a fresh system. If everything plays fine, i would just leave it be, don't tweak a working setup.

Yes, you are right. I wasn't clear.

h264 mkv I have, and I was just trying to force ffdshow to do all the work in the video config.

But, even though AC3Filter is fine, the h264 rips look great, ffdshow video is running well with sharpening, postprocessing etc on the non-HD stuff, technically, SAF and MP should be doing what it's told, not what it feels like, if you get my drift.

I'm happy with it. More of a bug report, per say.

Bug is, once AC3Filter has been chosen, it cannot be 'unchosen' for ffdshow audio, nor uninstalled. I uninstalled SAF and checked MP config, and AC3Filter was still handling the AC3 duties. Seeco has a similar problem.

if you want to remove ac3filter completely you can use radlight filter manager to unregister the codec or lower the merit value to do not use.

ac3filter has nothing to do with h264, ac3filter handles audio not video.

I never suggested it did, another communication error.

What I mentioned that the original problem was with ffdshow audio/ac3filter, but I believe it may also be happening with ffdshow video as well.

when i select FFDShow Video and Audio for Videos and play .ts Files audio and video are completely out of sync about 2-3 seconds. WHen i play avi files everything is fine. When i then select Cyberlink + FFDShow Audio everything is fine also for .ts FIles.
