Hi hoborg,

okay. I was a little bit unsure with passthrough through the installation process of SAF. I have clicked so it should be used.
If your answer means, that the better way is to disable passthrough, do I have to re-install SAF now? Or is there a configuration option wich I can disable passthrough?

Done!
Have installed SAF again without passthrough.
Then I tried to play an AVI in MPC-HC and it works like a charm. Sound, Video. All is fine. See attached Graph from MPC-HC.
After that, I open Mediaportal and try to play the same video. Nothing happens.
My MP error log tells me:

I am absolutely unsure in this case.
What I noticed is, that WMP11 is not on my PC. I have installed it before installation of MP and SAF. But now its not longer on my PC. Can this cause the error? Does SAF uninstall WMP11? Do I need WMP11 on the PC?

{51B4ABF3-748F-4E3B-A276-C828330E926A} - that is VMR9 renderer. No idea what causing problem (?drivers?).
If you double click on you video from explorer, will it play correctly using MPC-HC?
Please try play your file from local drive/USB stick.

SAF log can help too.

Strange, what?
I tried to open that video file by doubleclick. It will be opened in MCP-HC.
Also if I copy this file to local HDD it will be played fine in MCP-HC.

SAF-Logs are attachted.
The second attachment shows the error in MP.

In my former post, I asked what about the Windows Media Player 11. I have installed this befor installing Mediaportal and SAF. But now, I can´t locate Windows Media Player. Can this cause the problem?

Try to reinstall ATI drivers (use 9.11 from official ATI page - uninstall completly, restart, install 9.11, restart).

BTW, you have some bakground services launched automatically on OS startup (do you really need them to be running?):

I am downloading catalyst 9.11 now. Hope, a new installation with this drivers bring up SAF working.
After downloading, I deinstall ATI Catalyst software from Software Control Center in WinXP. Then installing the new drivers.
The Processes I need is Acronis True Image. ATIs StartCCC and Adobes Speed Launcher is not needed. Will deactivate this.
I will report later what happens.
Its a strange thing with drivers and so on. Can´t believe, that this is so strange.
Do you have WMP11 already installed on your machine or is it gone too, like on mines?

I didnt think WMP can somehow broke video playback in MP, but who knows?
And yes, i have WMP installed on my HTPC machine (it is part of moded OS i use), and MP install check it too.

And my HTPC is playing the vids fine now. Wonderful.
Your hint to install Catalyst 9.11 was the reason.
I installed this Catalyst version and vids will be shown fine now.
Thank you, hoborg, for your great software packacke and your perfect support.
Now I have to find out, what happens with SPDIF out. Will pass AC3 Sound out to my Denon Receiver via SPDIF. Former I used AC3Filter to do that. Now I think I have to manipulate ffdshow.
Do you have any hint for me in this case?

Yes.

FFDshow passthrough used and preconfigured by SAF is confirmed as working by users.

AC3 filter is good, but it doesnot support TrueHD (AC3+) audio, but it is autoloaded to decode it = no sound.

Now I have the same problem with WMV files.
MP cannot Play WMV files but MPC-HC plays them.
Look at the screenshots. I don´t understand, whats wrong here :-(

Try to enable MS DMO decoder - START - SAF - MS DMO - Video Decoder ON
BTW, can you provide small sample of such video?
