I did enable it, without knowing what it exactly does.
So can you say to me (or us) when to enable it and when to disable it?
Thanks in advance!

Reinstall SAF and this time click NO.

But when do you enable it?

Do you have any external device capable to decode DTS/AC3?

No, I have an 5.1 analogue config, the boxes are coupled to the computer directly.

So passthrough is useless for you.
You only need to configure FFDshow Output speakers configuration - this window popup after SAF install - there is stereo as default.

Re: SAF v4.00beta (StandAlone Filters) - DXVA ready (MPEG2, H.264 and VC-1).

Some receivers (most modern ones) are capable of decoding DTS audio streams and AC3 audio streams.
The newest receivers nowadays can also decode DTS HD / True HD.
If you have such a receiver, you can choose if you want your pc do the 6ch audio decoding for you or let the receiver do it for you.
If you connect speakers directly to your pc, it means the pc MUST decode the audio signal.
Some TV's are capable of decoding AC3 signals

If you want the pc to decode the 6ch dts/ac3 dolby audio to 6 separate analogue channels, you need to connect the receiver with your pc with 3 cables. front(L/R), Rear(L/R) Center/Subs. The signal to the receiver is than analogue. So NO SPDIF passhtough is present here.

BUT>.. Some of the receiver/TV's can decode 6ch out of the DTS/AC3 audio signal as well.
Connect your receiver with one digital cable. (=optical/digital TOS-link (SPDIF) ) Now, you can send the undecoded audio signal through the SPDIF cable where the receiver can decode it. The computer doesnt touch the audio stream what so ever. It just passes it through to your receiver/TV. This is the "Use SPDIF Passthrough" option. This also means volume controle is out of the question via the computer.

You can imagine the audio being transmitted as is (lossless) to the receiver being of a higher quality. But to be fair, I doubt anyone is capable of hearing the difference. I havent, but then again I have never been able to compare the two methods right after each other.

[edit]
Ghehehe.. a big bla bla story I wrote, which hoborg has just explained in 1 quick questions.... Do you have any external device capable to decode DTS/AC3?

Re: SAF v4.00beta (StandAlone Filters) - DXVA ready (MPEG2, H.264 and VC-1).

OK, i had enought time to rework SAF to support new "CyberLink Video Decoder (PDVD9)"
You can try it now, it is integrated in test2 (*unlocked* SAF only)
Remember, you will need to reconfigure you MediaPortal settings and this decoder doesnot work for DVDs (use FFDShow instead).

If you have problems (as i had on intel GPU here), disable DXVA in START, SAF, PDVD, DXVA OFF.

enjoy, test, report :)
