I think Hoborg mentioned that 8.12 is not compatible with SD content. You need to run catalyst 8.8 on vista to get that working correctly. Check the first page, he mentions something specific about the integrated video cards. In order to configure pdvd8, I open media player classic, go into the properties and set the pdvd8 codec as the preferred video codec under the "external filters" section. Open a video, then pause it and right click in the window, go into filters and modify the pdvd8 settings. Those settings should stick even when you exit MPC-HC. Hope that helps!

OK. I'll try Catalyst 8.8.

I have problems with playing DVDs too. I think this is because I use "DVD Navigator" + "PDVD MPEG2 decoder" so I would like to install Cyberlink DVD navigator too. I extracted and registered CLNavX.ax filter from the installer but I still do not see the PDVD Navigator in MP. Any idea?

I'm pretty sure that's the correct file. Not sure why it wouldn't work though. Unless they told MP to specifically ignore it. Hoborg, do you know why it won't show up?

PowerDVD 8 Navigator is disabled by MP becouse some kind of troubles.
I have lot of experience with DVDs and MS DVD navigator + PowerDVD is best combination i ever have.
What problem do you have with DVDs?

i have some avi files with multiple audiostream that i want to convert to the mkv container. anyone knows a tool which can do this automatically (batch mode)? this is a quite large number of files :p

MKV merge. There is queue mode. Check author pages about batch mode.

For Monchi and Akajester,
As Hoborg said again, I used MKVMerge tool to merge an avi video with some audio and subtitle tracks.
MKV is a container so no transform needed to make a .MKV file from .AVI file I think.

DVD does not play at all - it freezes MP.

I still do not have DXVA working.

I tried ATI8.8 but it does not support 1:1 pixel mapping for 1080p50. But DxVA was already working on my machine with ATI 8.11 so I installed this version for now. I deinstalled ATI drivers, I used driver cleaner, installed ATI 8.11, but still HW accel is not working - i'm pretty sure it was working before I updated ATI drivers, MP and installed SAF codec pack.

So I uninstalled all codecs, installed PDVD8+K-Lite codec pack, to bring it to the state before installing SAF but still I have no DxVA accel for SD. Suprisingly HW accel was working for HD content when decoded by MPC-HC. I also tried some reg tweaks for my HD3200 integrated graphics, but without any effect.

I almost think I would need to reinstall Vista :-(

Hi -

When MediaPortal is in fullscreen mode, avi files only play if VMR9/ExclusiveMode is disabled. If MediaPortal is windowed, the same files always play (with or without ExclusiveMode). Is this a known problem and is there any way to play avi files in fullscreen mode with Exclusive Mode? Since TV and Videos run more smoothly with Exclusive Mode I'd like to keep it enabled...

I'm using SAF 3.15 with CLVsd.ax, latest Haali Media Splitter, Nvidia Onboard GPU.

In case the avi file doesn't play the log file tells me the following:

@ z3us,

Just run SAFxxx.exe again. It will ask if you want to uninstall. :)
This is nicely taken care of.

What problem do you have with DVDs?

I decided to give this combination a try, but I have problems with DVD menu navigation. It's possible to select an item with the mouse e.g. Play Movie but the item is NOT highlighted. Since items are not highlighted, navigating with a remote becomes a pain...

If I disable hardware acceleration for PowerDVD8 in the MP Configuration -> Directshow Filter Control, the DVD menus works. But I loose hardware acceleration and consequently Nvidia Purevideo...

This is for my main HTPC based on a brand new ASUS P5N7A-VM motherboard with Nvidia Geforce 9300 mGPU, and latest drivers :(

The odd thing is that the same setup works flawlessy on another computer based on ASUS M2NPV-VM with an old Nvidia Geforce 6150 mGPU.

I can mention that I experince the exact same problem within PowerDVD8 as well...

All ideas and suggestions are most welcome.
