It finally works great out-of-the-box for passthrough! Great job :)

I just have two questions:
1. Is the default h264/x264 etc decoder supposed to be MPC Video Decober? Isn't ffdshow a better alternative?
2. My decoder doesn't identify DTS streams as DTS, just as dolby digital. So the same light flashes on with both DD and DTS streams, so I guess it isn't outputting DTS... It did do this in my ac3filter setup. How can i fix that?

hi hoborg,

i have an asrock ion 330 htpc and i'm not sure if the GPU has the capability of Vector Adaptive deinterlacing. is this a aproblem when i use ffdshow for mpeg-2? thanks for your help!

The ION chipset has hardware de-interlacing capability, probably either motion adaptive or pixel adaptive (=ATI vector adaptive), but the nVidia control panel doesn't let you choose the mode like ATI does.

Check out the DXVA capabilities of your system with DXVA Checker.

When you run it, the 'Decoder Device' tab lists the DXVA decode capabilities, the 'Processor Device' tab lists the hardware deinterlacing capabilties.

Tony

thanks for the info. i will check it this evening and will report back.

1) Yes, MPC decoder is currently default h.264/VC-1 decoder. FFDshow is not DXVA decoder. There is new FFDshow DXVA decoder based on MPC video decoder in latest FFDShow build. I tested it, DXVA works same as MPC, but if i tryed to play not DXVA compatible video, i got blue picture. Until this issue will be fixed, SAF auto disable FFDshow DXVA decoder.

2) If you move cursor on FFDshow audio icon, is not there any more info? I do not have reciever, but if you have issues with passthrough, report directly to FFDshow thread - remember to mention FFDshow revision instead of SAF version.

It says "input 6 channel dts" and output "S/PDIF". But as I said, my decoder says otherwise... really strange.

It looks like cosmetic bug on FFDshow side. But it is working, and that is important :)

EDIT:
There was similar issue in older FFDshow build, you should report it at ffdshow thred.

Re: SAF v4.00beta (StandAlone Filters) - DXVA ready (MPEG2, H.264 and VC-1).

ffdshow is actually doing it right, since it IS a dts stream. But as long as it outputs I'm happy :p How can I notice difference between DTS and DD anyway? I have 5 speakers, 1 bass. two speakers behind me, 3 in front of me.
Never really knew that actually :p

Does S/PDIF btw break volume control? I set it up in MP config but when I press volume up or down, the OSD shows up, but nothing changes in volume... is this because S/PDIF?

BTW, what happends if you disable AC3 (S/PDIF encode mode) in FFDShow - output setting?

Yes, of course. Audio is sended as it is to reciever.

Yep, that did it, thanks! DTS light turns on :)

as for volume control: I have had it working before, maybe it is a ffdshow thing... I'll get into it myself.
