No, DXVA decoder must be directly connected to renderer.

BTW, why do you want to use yadif deinterlacing? VA is one of most advanced deinterlacing you can get...

Hi and great work on the SAF filters! One thing i've noticed is that DTS decoding doesn't work properly since beta22. If you play back an MKV with DTS or DTS-MA then the video will stutter and the audio plays too fast. This only happens with libavcodec. If you change it to libdts the problem goes away but it doesn't decode 7.1 audio etc. It doesn't actually affect me as I don't have surround sound anyway but I'm sure this will affect some people.

Can I just point out one thing. In the guide at the beginning you should say what to do with proppage.dll. Im using Windows 7 x64 and had already registered it in Windows/System32 which worked fine but your installer said it couldn't be found (graphstudio still worked). I realized your installer looks for it in SysWOW64 so you should probably state this in the installation instructions.

The new beta23 works much better using the PowerDVD 9 video decoder. H.264 works

No need to install Proppage.dll manualy, *unlocked* SAF do all work automaticaly

You can try it. Get some MPEG-2 interlaced video and play it in MPC-HC, FFDShow video decoder should be in use.

If you run video in MPC-HC player, you will see if DXVA is used or not.
And if your MP4 videos do nto work, use MKV merge to mux them in to MKV. They should works now, for mufing WMV in to MKV, you can use SAF tool DSmux.

I don't think you understood what I was saying.

On my P4/2600XT, most of the MP4/MKV AVC files work fine and are clearly using DXVA (under 15% CPU) with the MPC decoder. Trying to use the Cyberlink decoder causes major problems. The only AVC files that aren't watchable are the POTC - Dead Man's Chest and Planet Earth clips, neither of which use DXVA no doubt due to the encoding. POTC uses about 50% CPU on my X3 720/HD3200 and is fine and Planet Earth about 60% but is jerky and only manages an average frame rate of about 18fps. I'm not sure what system is needed to play that clip smoothly!

The Dark Knight VC-1 (Microsoft).wmv works fine in MP now with the MPC decoder. It must have been playing with the Cyberlink decoder before.

720P WMV (WMV3) files work OK, playing with ffdshow, but have high CPU around 60%. 1080P WMV (WMV3) files are too jerky to watch and pretty much max out the CPU. Muxing the WMV3 files in MKVs doesn't make any difference.

SD LiveTV/MPEG2 files are playing with the Cyberlink decoder but don't appear to be using DXVA, at around 30% CPU. In the past I've been able to click on the decoders in graphstudio and see the properties for them, showing if they're using DXVA or not, but now it just brings up pages of technical data. If I play recorded TS files in MPC-HC, the properties for Cyberlink decoder show DXVA but it's still using around 30% CPU. Maybe the 2600XT just doesn't use DXVA very well with MPEG2.

So really, my only questions are is it possible to get WMV3 video played with DXVA and is it possible to make MPEG2 playback use less CPU?

Strangely, whilst the latest SAF works quite well with my P4/2600XT system, it doesn't work at all well with my X3 720/HD3200 system, both of which are running Cat 9.12.

On the latter, trying to play AVC clips in MPC-HC results in it locking up or at least freezing for a very long while before
playback starts. In MP, the clips don't play with the Cyberlink H264 Decoder at all, with MP just freezing and on one
occasion the PC BSOD. All the clips played fine in MPC-HC with MPC Video decoder before and most of them play well on the
2600XT system using the Cyberlink H264 Decoder.

BSOD = hardware fault ?overheating? or driver crash, Decoder cannot do BSOD by itself. Try diferrent iGPU drivers.

It seems the Cyberlink decoder is no good with AVC clips. They're working now on my X3 720/HD3200 with the MPC decoder. I guess I was mistaken about playing them on the 2600XT system with the Cyberlink decoder, unless I was using an older one that worked better with AVC, as the current one is terrible.

Yeah, I guess I forgot and got confused. Strange that the Cyberlink H264 decoder doesn't work though as I would have thought people using PowerDVD use it.

Shame about the lack of WMV3 DXVA. At least I can stop looking now.

EDIT: still want to try and get MPEG2 DXVA working if I can. I'll give Elecard and Avivo Decoders a try and if they don't work, I'll contact ATI.

Hoborg, can you clarify something for me please:

h.264 video decoder, you suggest using MPC...

I have a ati4850, and have pdvd9 installed... would it be better for me to use the pdvd (cyberlink) for h.264 instead of the mpc? Or could someone explain the differences please? (I convert all vids (HD) to mkv's, they are 720p or 1080p)

I can't tell you much about the pros and cons of the two I'm afraid, but I can tell you that I was unable to use the PDVD codec with the last SVN and with the latest one it seems to work as well as the MPC Video decoder, with the majority of AVC MKV/MP4s using DXVA and low CPU on my 2600XT with Cat 9.12.

Ffdshow has now been released with DXVA decoding:

Changes (3185-3194):

* DXVA decoding (new filter)
* DTS-HD bitstream fix (not working on some receivers)
* SPDIF passthrough fix when AC3 encode is checked (to be confirmed)
* Fixed H264 codec selection ignored
* Use correct ISO 639-1 [1] & RFC 4646 [2] codes for languages. Three files have not been renamed yet because ffdshow only accepts two-character codes in the names of the language files.
* Fixed : ffmpeg-mt not loading (the same file is used to compile both libavcodec and ffmpeg-mt methods, so if there are not the same methods in both which is the case for DXVA a macro has been be added to load extra methods for libavcodec only)
* Adjusted input mediatypes for DXVA filter
* DXVA/H264 fix (unstability)
* DXVA bugfix: stream compatibility check
* bugfix: DXVA1 is now working.
