SD TV with 5.1 sound possible (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I'm trying to get 5.1 sound via my analogue 5.1 boxes watching SDTV. My question is, is SDTV normally 5.1 or is only HDTV 5.1? Or does it depend on the provider (I have Ziggo (@home)DVB-C in the Netherlands).

Hi doornjoostje,
A lot of SDTV stations send only stereo audio signal.
But some SDTV stations send also Dolby5.1 signal, you can check it with the right mouse click on the TV screen in Media Portal and select audio settings.

Is there an option with my config to let it sound like 5.1.
I've tried ffdshow, with expand stereo, but didn't really help.

HI,
I already tried to play stereo signal as dolby 5.1 but the result was not very good.
You can set in the general audio setteings to force dolby5.1 but I don't prefer it.
In my opinion ist to play stereo as stereo and only dolby5.1 as dolby5.1

Ok thanks again.

So when I right click, I can only select "3 audio language".
Then the next screen shows " Mpeg2:dut", dut = dutch.
But when this is 5.1 what can you see there then?

If tv station send with dolby5.1, instead of mpeg2:dut you would see dolby5.1:dut etc.
