Does anyone know whether the 1.3beta version of MP actually plays Blu-Ray natively?

I remember reading that it did somewhere and I know from experience that alpha does not.

It does but there are some restrictions. For commercial disks you need a 3rd party software to decrypt the disk on-the-fly. BD-J menus are not supported yet, but you can choose the streams you want to play.

    See:
    Limitations:
    • BD-J based menus aren't supported - all BD-J based Blu-ray disks need to be played in title based mode.
    • Text based subtitles aren't supported - only a small minority of Blu-ray disks seems to use text-based subtitles.
    • MediaPortal now fully supports playing unencrypted Blu-ray discs (with the exception of BD-J discs using Java menus - for which MediaPortal will display a list of Titles for the user to access instead of displaying the Java menus). If the user wishes to play a commercial disc, then they will need to use a 3rd party on-the-fly decrypter such as AnyDVD HD or DVDFab Passkey Lite.
    • Windows Vista (or above) is needed for this feature to work. This is because the EVR Renderer is used, which only works software based in XP.
    • LAV Video + VC-1 interlaced video does not work with Software Decoding.
    • 3D Blu-ray movies aren't supported (yet). Libbluray needs to fully support this before it will work with MediaPortal's internal player.

Thanks for that Holzi - guess I shall be sticking with 1.3.0 alpha until Miroslav's new version comes out.

I actually had to re-install Mediaportal over the weekend and, as above, am using Miroslav's Sky Epg version of 1.3.0 alpha.

I just cannot get the EPG to start populating.

I have had this problem before and I have got round this by getting the server to test all the channels automatically and then stopping the TV service and then starting it again. I sometimes had to do this a few times but then it suddenly start showing that the DVB-S2 card is picking up the Sky EPG signal.

This time, it just will not work - I have also tried watching a recording, time shifting, leaving the PC on the EPG page to idle and pressing the referesh EPG button repeatedly, but nothing.

Any ideas for what might have gone wrong this time?

Found a fix - click on the freesat button in radio channels and leave the EPG to populate the EPG for a bit. Then uncheck it and leave for a bit - the Sky grabber soon kicks and updates everything.

    Ditto.

It'd be nice if this was at some point incorporated into the main product so we weren't left out whenever there's a new release. I have 1.3 on my test system and I like it, it's a shame not to have it in the living room and bedrooms until this gets updated :(

I am a little bit torn - I really want to upgrade to 1.3.0 RC but could not live with out the Sky EPG grabbing.

Is there anyway that I can upgrade but still get the Sky EPG for the time being (if this were the case, I assume the only difference between doing this and Mirsolav's version of MP would be that I would not be able to use Series Link anymore)?

Indeed and if you're in the UK or Italy then it will work great for you using DJBlu's work, however for me in New Zealand DJBlu doesn't have the time to adapt his plugin and I don't have the skill so before Christmas Miroslav kindly agreed to incorporate OpenTV support for NZ in to this work. I've tried editing files and code myself but what ever I have done has caused it not to build :-(

    Hello,

I am indeed in the UK and did try DJBlu's version a while back - for some reason, it just did not work well for me.

It kept finding duplicates of channels and I got in a bit of a mess with it.

Ultimately, all i really need is Series Link and Sky EPG. I think that DJBlu's version tried to add too much that I did not want and I sort of ended up fighting with it.

I seem to remember that DJBlu's version had lots of various downloads.

Does anyone know whether I can just install the bits to given me the functionality of Mirsolav's version, or does it not work that way?
