I'm not at home at the moment, so I will post a screenshot in the evening, but I think a screenshot ist not neccessary, because it is a general issue.
You can see this e.g. while starting MediaPortal when you see the labels with "Loading plugins...", "generate cache...", etc. pp. Have a look at the edges of the font. The font is very sharp without using AntiAliasing or ClearType, so it looks not so good on a LCD TV ;-)

I don't think so, because MP has no way of knowing at which timestamp the external player stopped playback.
Best way to achieve this would be to use an auto-resume feature in your external player itself. (MPC-HC can do that, I don't know about VLC)
