Is it possible to stop scrolling of the menu items on the MP by default?

Sorry for the bad explanation. Yes, when you move the mouse cursor the items move, e.g. "Vidoes", they are not that easy to hit for me.

Yes, I see. MP is mainly designed to be used with Remote Control or keyboard.

I think you couldn't. (while using a mouse)
When I started with MediaPortal I had exactly the same issue. But after some time I got a Remote control and it is way better to control MediaPortal with a remote control or a keyboard than with a mouse.

Ah okay, so I should get used to the keyboard when I use a notebook / PC to access MP. And the short cuts I could change / look up in the configuration GUI.

You maybe could get your TV remote control to work with your PC but I never used it and I think you need some knowledge for this.
Personally I use this remote which works perfectly with MediaPortal: http://www.amazon.de/Hama-00052451-MCE-Remote-Control/dp/B000X1EL4W
It is not high quality but it is enough for me and pretty cheap.
