The main problem is that the MusicNowPlaying plugin, built into MP, insists on setting focus to which ever listcontrol is populated first. The effect of this is cause the menu to slide out, can easily put it back by hitting left on the remote but it does this for every track!

I think the sidemenu is a no go, unless it can be invisible by default. I have too limited knowledge of skinning to guess a work around for this. Is it possible to set a 2nd fake/invisble list control in the centre which starts with focus, and then you can loose focus and focus the slide menu? In music shares the slide menu is not activated by default. Anyways i'll leave you to it.

I spent a little time looking at adding a side menu along the lines of your mockups, good and bad news here.

I can put it all together, get a menu with the links and Top Tracks and Tags listcontrols. Adding the star rating for this two list controls is not going to be possible, though may try a couple of other idea but dont hold out much hope.

Easy enough to sort in MP and I could submit a patch to make this behaviour configurable but as MP is bug fix status only this is very unlikley to be considered for the next release.

I have attached screen shots and the xmls that do the menu so you can see the behaviour...

I just wondering about this question too.
Layouts above look amazing with backdrops, but without them, screen would look a little empty.
I don't want to search for hundreds of backdrops manually, I wait for the time
when MP can look for them automatically like tvseries and movingpictures

Until then, I use multiimage slideshow under my custom layout.

it's getting there, so many possible layouts and a few problems that are beyond the scope of the skin to work around.

It uses manually downloaded fanart and these are stored in the skin folder under media/Animations/music

I get all mine mainly from Home Theatre Backdrops  / Home , really good source - you need to save thme in the above folder named exactly the same as the artist and they have to be .jpg files.

kiwijunglist original mockups use the the autodownloaded fanart but the res of these is less hence the smaller image that is is displayed. This also means you dont have to manually download loads of fanart - the idea here would be to allow for both in the skin and prefered method chosen during install.

Should have working version of kiwijunglist mockups in a couple of hours so they can be tried out.

Exactly what I am looking now...jyust got it working - this solves a lot of issues, just need to get a mod into MPs NowPlaying code and all will be prefect!

Should have working version of kiwijunglist mockups in a couple of hours so they can be tried out.

let me know if you want me to redo the L shaped layout fade, as i'm a bit better with photoshop now and can do it slightly nicer. Before i was using a selection mask, and then using feather, but now i found it's better to edit a channel in photoshop then do a gaussian blur then convert to a layer mask. I can also just wait for you to finish coding then i can retrofit something. that way i can see what the various fades look like in the skin engine to get the best result.

These got put on the back burner why I tried everything to get the slide out menu to work, conclusion - not possible. Will get back to it tomorrow now finished playing around. Have you got copies of those icons you used for Search, Lyrics and Playlist that were on one of your mock ups? Could do with those.

And this is what took up the rest of the time, got all that working and is fantastic so will prep the screen to use this, should be released soon - I can't find any problems with .95 release.

I patched WindowsPlugis.dll so that the listcontrol focus is disabled and this with slide menus is the way to go - if you want to test that (and you are running MP1.1 and latest SVN) PM with your email and I can send you a copy to try out.
