I have just installed media portal do I need a viewing card

What do you mean with viewing card, if you want to watch TV then you need a TV card.

Hi I am sorry I have now read the" what you need " when you download MediaPortal and unfortunately I don't have a tuner card which is what I meant by viewing card but thanks for the quick replies.

You can get USB and PCI tuners which will work from your aerial (DVB-T) (where "T" stands for terrestrial which is Freeview) or from a satellite dish (DVB-S) (where "S" stands for satellite which is Freesat).

Since you live in the UK, if you want to watch HD content, you will need to get the latest versions of these devices which will be listed as DVB-T2 or DVB-S2. (actually, this isn't technically true for satellite (Freesat), since you can get ITV1 HD using a DVB-S card, but all the other free to air satellite channels (BBC One HD, BBC Two HD and Channel 4 HD).

You can buy all sorts of tuner cards, some have up to 4 tuners on the same card.
