Yes I know, thats the comfortability of IFC which I miss as the only issue.
I had mapped that option to my X10 button "angle", and it would be a nice icing on the cake, if VMS could make this work as well.
One button to switch through the modes :)
Comes quite handy for cutscenes where the AR is weird, subtitles of 4:3 are cut (when displaying it as "zoom") etc. Going through the menu works of course, but is not a quickly responsing solution.
Just to explain what I have in mind ;)

    Hello,

I have no Idea, how to get the right Aspect (Zoom), if Black Bars are at Top & Button of the Picture.:(

Can you enable 'Extensive logging'in the VMS and debug log level in MP, and attach MediaPortal.log please ?

(What you have - as far as I can tell - is 4:3 SD video with hard letterboxed 16:9 content inside it. The default rules should select Zoom14_9 for 4:3 content)

Oh we are actually missing a view mode, we should have 16:9 Letterbox :)

It seems strange that we have 4:3 Letterbox without 16:9 letterbox.
16:9 Letterbox View Mode is for viewing letter boxed 16by9 inside 4:3 frame on 16:9 TV.

Zoom 14:9 is for viewing 4:3 on 16:9 Displays, but not for above.

So, here seems to be another one with 16:9 in 4:3 with a 16:9 Display...

my bad, zoom., is16x9 letter box zoom. so all good.

re; above have you got black bar detection on because it is needed for finding 16by9 inside 4by3.[DOUBLEPOST=1371910716][/DOUBLEPOST]

As Kiwi suggests, if you change the ViewMode in the "16:9 inside 4:3" rule to be 'Zoom' it should do what you need (in your logs it is set to 'Normal', which won't do anything useful in this situation).

Kiwi - I'll change the default for that rule.

After changing to zoom (and reducing Black level treshold to 10), it seems to do now like expected!

    THX @ Kiwi & Owlsroost!

One other thing (for better understanding): A 21:9 Movie within 16:9 is zoomed to 14:9 . It's fine for me, but I don't now which rule/function is responsible for it (because I don't have any rules with 14:9)?!
