OK.... Besides the fact the 5xxx or 6xxx cards are from ATI/AMD ;-) , are there any other disadvantages for a HTPC user at the moment?
Pixelation seems to be fixed. SO thats finaly a cross through this annoyance. But does this mean ATI now has a kind of 'complete' htpc solution? Hypothetical speaking... In theory ofcourse.... No downsides anymore?

Ifso, they need to build singleslot halfsize fanless ones of the 5670 :)

I don't want to stand on pro-nvidia-folks toes... being really carefull here...

a friend of mine is waiting for the AMD onboard fusion thing (in his case the Asus Deluxe mainboard). There are some tests out there who writes that it isn't able to do VA with 1080i but there are some users who already do this. So it might be an issue due to an older driver. I'll report back when he has his mobo.

    Is this really necessary.
I have a 5570 passive low profile which has more than enough power for a htpc.

    Hi there,

The only previous issue of concern for ATI owners was the flickering overlay/menus.

IMHO a 5450 is borderline (but will depend on what you are doing with postprocessing effects), a 5570 should be fine... a 5670 is the best passive card (and is probably an overkill for basic HTPC)

    J.

AW: WARNING: pixelation/corruption on h264 channels.

I've 3 fine working htpc's looking a lot of 1080i material and have never seen any problems with my 5450 cards. But I don't use any effects from cat except pulldown detection and VA. Are there any useful ones?

    It depends.
On good HD and good SD I would not use any.
On SD broadcasts with low quality I use denoise and deblocking.

For me on the danish mpeg4 channel "DR HD" it is not fully fixed.
running on a passive hd5750 card using 11.2 drivers.

It has improved a lot since this thread was started though.

using the cyberlink pdvd10 codec fixes the issue completely.
Its only when dealing with the MS codec.
