Yes it's http based (https if being precise) and hostet by a Windows service.

What we need to try to avoid is that everyone over and over again starts a lot of work with the same idea:
Yes of course. But well that's more a part of communication with the other devs and from my point we schould have a fundament about we can discuss and that's done with this new service.

And just to be honest: I don't have to get the honour, the werbservice is done by the second dev in our team ;)

Did I say superb yet, Mike? ;) Sounds great. That's exactly what we need! No hassle with IIS or Cassini, just a simple webservice based on a Windows Service application. I know WCF has the tendency to force you to use SSL, but I wonder if this doesn't create an extra complexity during installation of end users? Wouldn't it be an idea to also offer it as HTTP since it will only be used over local networks? What's your vision on this?

DieBagger, I think Mike is right on the road we talked about and there's no need for us to do the same. Let's take Mike his work as a base for many more nice extensions to come :)

Well https is not really more complex, especially in the intranet environment it's really easy for the enduser:

Insert Servername, choose Intranet and it's ready to go ;)

WCF is a field I still need to study more on I have to admin. I did a simple hobby WCF implementation two weeks ago to learn more about it and I needed to pull some strings to install SSL certificates via a DOS command on the ports I wanted to use for WCF communication. Seen the theory behind SSL and certificates I don't see how you managed to get it to work that easy? You will always need a specific SSL certificate (whether its from a CA or self signed) marked for the host you're running the service on, right?

Oh i've to revise my statement ;) While using an intranet conenction no https is used.

I will check how the certification is done and give you these information.

Sure Kay, that's what I offered right :) I just created a SourceForge account. My username is koenzomers. I still need to create a virtual image with Windows 7 and Visual Studio 2008 with the Media Center SDK and AnkhSvn so I can take a look at what you've created so far. I will initiate that now.

Thx Kay. I have the image with Win7 x64 ready. Installing VS2008 now. Too bad there's no Media Center SDK yet for VS2010.

And don't worry.. I won't laugh at your code. We're all here to help and learn from each other and create something fun together. Laughing at others isn't a productive thing to do.
