The TBS tuner might be more sensitive than the Digital Devices one, and that could be what allows it to lock on the signal when the Digital Devices tuner is unable to do so...

OK,

I moved the TBS card to the TV server, and guess what : I could lock to the troubled transponder.
Hmm.
Removed the TBS card again, and moved the DD Octopus card to another PCI slot.
And then tadaa : I could scan the missing channels again.

So we move a step ahead, and try to preview one of the channels, with the CI module completely removed, disabled, forgotten.
We get the "Channel not mapped to any card" message. This could of course be caused by the fact that the channel is encrypted (as I can see in the log), but nevertheless, the message is misleading to say the least.

Next step : enable the CI module again

Enabled the CI module, inserted CAM and smartcard.
Used DD config tool to assign the CI module to the correct tuner, restarted TV server.
Edited tuner in MP to enable CAM, and tried a preview of the channel mentioned above.

Result : message "no PMT found.

I tried increasing the PMT timeout to 15 sec., but same result.

P.S. just for your info :
I can access the CI menu from both the DD config tool and from MP.
For me, this means at the very least that the CI module is connected well and that the smartcard can be read from (i.e. not inserted backwards or anything like that).

Maybe you can test your card and cam with other software, to be shure this is not mediaportal related.
I'm using" for the record" 1.6 (Argus tuner), it fully supports the cine s2.

Another question I was asking myself :
the standard CI module of my provider can be used in their certified PVR receivers. This requires MTD too, wouldn't it ?
The PVR function allows for one channel to be recorded while another one can be viewed.
If this CI module doesn't support MTD, then how come it works in their certified PVR machines ?

Most receivers I know, will record programs encrypted and they will be decryted when you start watching it,
so there is no need for MTD here.

Thanks for the tip.

I installed FTR 1.6.0.0 and configured it to scan Astra 19.2.
When the CI module was enabled and inserted, I could see signal level and quality near 100%, but nevertheless I always got a "No signal" message.
I then pulled the CAM from the CI interface, to see services effectively being found.
Except for my provider channels.
Sweeping through the list of frequencies for 19.2 however, I noticed that none of the frequencies from my provider channel list are in the list.
For instance, one of my channels is on 12721 ; FTR only scans on 12722.
How can I update / alter the list of frequencies for this satellite ?

What this excercise proves so far, however, is that my CAM seems to be making it impossible to get any signal through the tuners ?
When I discussed this same behaviour with Digital Devices support, they came to the following conclusion :

Then your Hardware is OK. The problem must be at the CAM. If CI is connected, all streams go over the CI. If the CI would be broken, then you would have problems with AND without the CAM.

When I try a manual recording of a scrambled channel, I get the message "The service's PMT was not found".
This is similar to the Mediaportal behaviour.

For some strange reason, I have the same scanning behaviour in FTR as in MP :
- when I do a complete scan for Atra 19.2, my TVV channels are missing
- when I do a manual scan on the frequencies in the TVV channel list, I do get the channels.

The DD logreader doesn't seem to do anything at all when I start it, so I can't check any numbers. But the signal strength and quality as indicated by the tuner is 100% and more than 90% respectively during the scan.


So we're back at the point where I ended up with MP : I can scan the channels as long as the CAM is not inserted.

When I tune the channel for preview or recording, the behaviour is also identical in both programs :
- without the CAM module, I get the message "channel is scrambled"
- with the CAM module, I get the message "No PMT found"

So the CAM seems to be in the way for both programs for some reason, totally unclear to me (or anyone else here for that matter).
DD support says it can't do anything about it, I just have to try a different CAM, and take a gamble on which one I should buy this time.

As far as I have read on this forum, the Aston 2.2 seems a safer bet than the others ; it surely supports the Mediaguard encryption TVV uses, and it seems to support MTD, judging from the messages I read.

The logreader should create a tunerlog.txt file on your desktop with the tuning results,
these results are much more reliable than the FTR of MP ones.

This may be a dumb question, but have you tried removing the CAM while you're scanning, and then putting it back in when the scan finishes and you're ready to test the channels? Maybe you're saying that the channels don't get picked up at all with MP even with the CAM out?

that's exactly how I did it.
I scanned for channels with the CAM removed, inserted the CAM again and then tried to preview or timeshift the channels.

Without the CAM inserted, I can scan for channels (even though I have to manually scan for certain frequencies a second time before some channels are found).
